Daws Butler, Part II

edit

So, here is today's comment from our taciturn IPv6 editor, left in an edit summary as he carefully deleted my additions to this Talk page:

  • 2020-09-03T14:57:04‎ IPv6 Your the one wasting "MY" time. I wasn't trying to cause harm, I was only trying to make it look better for viewers. You can say what you want about me, this is just a wastyof time your causing. Sorry.

I'm sorry you don't see it, but despite your protests that your addition "wasn't trying to cause harm", you were, in fact, doing exactly that. As I tried to explain to you earlier, Wikipedia runs on facts. You may not put something in here just because you want to, or because you "know it's right". If you want to include something, you must find a reliable source (see WP:RS) that has already published the information you want to include. Sure, this takes a little time, but it helps ensure only high-quality information is added to WP articles.

You also you should communicate with other WP editors by creating an account and using it to edit Talk pages as well as articles. You must never be untruthful when describing what you're doing, either.

This is the original text (I've removed the wikilinks):

Daws Butler (pilot, 1959, 1973, 1987)

This text says that Daws voiced the pilot, and episodes in 1959, 1973, and 1987. (This isn't completely correct, as I've discovered from reading the sources, but that's a whole 'nother subject.)

You're trying to change the text to read:

Daws Butler (1959–1973, 1987)

What this says is that Daws voiced episodes in 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, and 1987, which adds 12 years to the article's statement of his participation (and tosses the "pilot" out with the bathwater). You made this change without citing any additional evidence (i.e. you just changed the article text, without adding (or changing) any references.

When someone removed your addition, you complained, asking, "How is an "en dash" a big deal?". I explained to you that an en dash isn't a big deal, but unsourced changes to the article are, and I asked you to either cite a reliable source for your assertions, or stop making these disruptive changes.

I made these entries here on the Talk page to try to get you to talk to us about what you're trying to do, but your reaction wasn't to talk—it was to try to delete the text I added to the Talk page (which isn't allowed, either).

I honestly don't know why you're doing all this. This place isn't a game, and it's not your private message board. If you want to edit here, you are welcome to do so, but learn to work with other people, and stop being deceptive. If you've come here to troll, or to play games, I suggest there are other places where you will be much happier that at Wikipedia. — UncleBubba T @ C ) 21:51, 3 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

OHHHHHHHHHHH, now I understand why you kept on deleting my edit. I was just misunderstanding why you kept on doing it, but now I get it. Because you mentioned above that the "en dash" stands for "years" that the voice actor voiced that character, I know that he did voice him in the pilot episode. But you are right that he didn't voice him throught 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, and 1987. However, the other part that's correct is the source next to it does states that he did voice him again in the 1973 Hanna-BarBera record Hanna-Barbera Characters Talk ‘Safety’ - On Records. The only part I deleted just now was the YouTube reference of the 1987 show Hanna Barbera show Canada Wonderland. Because YouTube can not to used as a source accourding to it's policy, plus it's unknown who voiced the characters in that show because the video doesn't show any credits of the voice actors that voiced the characters in the show. So therfore, it shouldn't be used firba reference. Hope you forgive me, I'm sorry about the misunderstanding. I wasn't trying to troll all over the article with my countless edits removals, I just misunderstood. Let's just pertend this never happened. 2600:1000:B00B:817D:8939:CDB1:B336:CA4 (talk) 02:28, 4 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

A suggestion

Some of the sentences in this wiki are non constructive aka too much info for one specific detail and because we are talking about one character instead of the entire series it makes less sense 2603:8080:200:5519:B144:CFAD:75AE:7628 (talk) 18:14, 28 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
