Speaking as a not-so-young botanist now, I can attest to the infectious enthusiasm and encouragement given to me and many others by the remarkable Frank Perring. He had an amazing memory for names and faces, that matched his memory for plants, and would greet you by your first name, even if you had only met him briefly some time before.
