Apparently Incorrect Information

The article states that he had 31 hits in the Billboard 100 between 1958 and 1962 however I can only find 25 (plus the Disco version of "Venus" which reached number 46 in 1976). Songs like "Beauty School Dropout" don't even appear to have been released as a single. The web site at[1] provides a complete list, however as an administrator of that site obviously the conflict of interest rules prevent me from adding that as a reference. Could someone edit the article to fix the number or find a source that can be quoted (of course if you are not connected to our site you can use that as a source if you feel that would be appropriate). In this article from August 2013 it states that he is 72 years old https://www.thestar.com/entertainment/stage/2013/08/23/frankie_avalon_on_beach_parties_the_simplicity_of_the_past_and_annette_funicello_the_big_interview.html. Although the birth date is given as 14 September (probably a printing error though) here is an another article from October 2015 giving his age as 75. https://whyy.org/articles/frankie-avalon-to-be-grand-marshall-of-columbus-day-parade-in-philadelphia/ That together with the information on his web site I think we can be pretty sure that the correct year is 1940.DrKilleMoff (talk) 23:54, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

There is also a photo of Avalon and Funicello in the movie Beach Party which was in 1963. But it says c. 1977. I don't think that is correct.Zachygirl (talk) 03:40, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

Questionable statement in opening section removed

This statement added on Feb 19, 2017 to the opening section reads: "he is a seminal figure in mid 20th century entertainment and an icon in the history of American rock and roll music." I initially merely requested a citation, but the more I thought about it I removed it as being a questionable summation of this subjects place in popular and entertainment culture. That he was successful as a recording artist and performer is not in doubt. That along with Annette Funicello he was an icon of the 1960's Beach Party Genre is also true. But considering he has never been considered by consensus within the entertainment industry to be on a "seminal" influential level along side the likes of those who indisputably are (such as Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe, Johnny Carson, Chuck Berry, etc.), this sentence seems a gross overstatement of a singular opinion. Likewise, few historians, scholars, journalists--and even fans--consider him an icon of rock and roll. For example, in a quarter century's worth of eligibility, he's never even been a nominee for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (for whatever that may be worth.) If a credible source can be found it may deserve to be restored, and I am willing to debate it's veracity. ShelbyMarion (talk) 19:16, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
