Ratings

edit

I reverted the add of info regarding Congressman Wolf's ratings by the ACLU, NAACP, and others for two reasons. 1. Those ratings do not mean what they say they mean. The language I removed said it indicated an "anti-gay-rights" and "anti-civil rights" position. That's not necessarily true. All those ratings indicate is how often he voted in agreement with the rating organization's position. That is not the same thing. 2. Even assuming those ratings show what they purport to show, "anti-gay-rights" and "anti-civil rights" are clearly POV phrases and therefore against Wikipedia policy.--Velvet elvis81 (talk) 22:13, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

By the same token, though, I think we should remove "Representative Wolf is an impassioned advocate for human rights.[2]" from the beginning of him on the issues in light of the fact that both the ACLU and the Human Rights Coalition, the only two groups mentioned in the article that relate to human rights, each gave him a 0%. The citation is an op-ed from the Washington Times, a highly conservative newspaper. The "citation" is someone purporting that he is an avid defender of human rights, and even there, that's an opinionated claim. I think that we should remove that sentence. If no one objects within a few weeks, I'm going to get rid of it.

Remove poor references

edit

I just did a huge amount of reference cleanup, including turning most of the citations into proper references. For those unfamiliar with citations, just citing a URL is not a proper reference. We need titles, work names, authors, dates, etc., not only to be able to update the reference if and when the URL breaks, but also to allow readers to gauge the usefulness and neutrality of sources. Anyone who has questions about this can post to me on my talk page.

The result of my cleanup revealed an extreme case of overkill on the "attack" video, including quite a few redundant sources citing each other, and a plethora of blogs not acceptable as reliable sources by Wikipedia standards. I have no knowledge of this event, and I've already spent too much time just cleaning stuff up, so I invite other readers and editors to trim down the citations to the best original and reliable one(s). Thanks. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 07:13, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Neutrality Issues

edit

In the second sentence of the article, I believe the reference to Wolf being a career politician should be removed as it is editorializing. Also this sentence that appears at the end of the article (The staffers suffered only minor injuries and charges against Dutton are still pending.) either needs to be removed or get a citation. Frank R. Wolf International Religious Freedom Act

edit

Seems like it would be appropriate to mention that a newly enacted bill was named after Frank Wolf, but I'm not seeing a place in the current flow of the article that it would easily fit. Any ideas? -- Fyrael (talk) 07:34, 2 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
