"He was corrupt" is a very serious allegation to make. I believe more evidence is required than Ray Whitord's interview.

"He wasn't corrupt" is a very serious allegation to make against any police commissioner. One would want to have incontrovertible proof before one made such a statement. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.208.226.40 (talk) 13:17, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

ADB quote in lead edit

Bischof is such a controversial and written-about figure that I don't think "His early career was marked with a high rate of success, yet the appointment of 'the Big Fella' as Police Commissioner was viewed at the time as a politically sensitive and partisan appointment" is something we should remotely be stating as fact. Specifically, it is fairly seriously contradicted by Matthew Condon's far more in-depth and well-researched Three Crooked Kings, which focuses heavily on Bischof's career and covers his appointment in great detail. Condon explains both very thoroughly why Bischof's appointment was seen as politically sensitive and partisan, and this quote carries some implications about both the motivations for the opposition and the true nature of Bischof's pre-Commissioner career that I don't think can be borne out against Condon's research. I don't mind it going in somewhere as the opinion of the academic who wrote the ADB article, with appropriate context, but it can in absolutely no way be said to be undisputed fact.
