Talk:Formation flying

I started this page because I thought the subject merited an article of its own (separate from, for example, aerobatics). However, I'm a little unsure where it should go from here. There's very little publicly-available reference material on which to base an article, and the material that is available (such as the T-34 Association manual) mainly covers procedures and rules. I'd like the article to focus more on the methods of formation flying, and perhaps some history.--Tedd 17:01, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Suggested areas for expansion

The portion of the article on military aircraft formations, whether intentionally or not focuses on fighter formations. Bomber formations and airlift formations are different. Bomber formations should include the combat box used by American heavy bomber forces during World War II. For history, fighter formations preceding the finger four formation (which dates from World War II) included line abreast and line astern (British terms, American for line astern woud be trail). More importantly, the V (or vic) formation was a standard fighter formation prior to WW II. Lineagegeek (talk) 00:47, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
