Trim Lines edit

Is there a credible source saying that "GL" means "Grand Luxury?" Considering GL was usually the base or mid-range model, and LX was luxury, I don't think "Grand Luxury" makes much sense. --Sable232 14:39, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think "GL" probably stands for "General". --Kuroki Mio 2006 20:56, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't think GL stands for anything, really. I've never seen anything referring to a meaning for it. I'm not sure if the article should call it anything but "GL." --Sable232 19:30, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Again, I have never seen any documentation stating that "GL" stood for anything. So unless someone can find some Ford maketing material that states that, STOP ADDING THAT TO THE ARTICLE. --Sable232 04:52, 11 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ford GL trim level cars (which were on all sedans, from Tempo to Taurus) did not stand for anything. They were just 'codes' that were given to mid-class trimmed cars. NOT 'Grand Luxury' as it was written before. As the GL was nothing, nothing luxurious. The most luxurious Tempo was the LX (which was short for luxury). Its just like Ford's modern day XLT and SEL trim levels.

Mexican Market edit

Just in case anyone wonders, I'm writing this same thing in the Tempo and in the Topaz Article, because: In Mexico, for some reason the Ford Tempo was called Ford Topaz and the Mercury Topaz was called Ford Ghia. Here's two youtube links to commercials of the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8teBwpAqQE Ford Topaz/Tempo, 1994; and Ford Ghia/Mercury Topaz from '91: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mky0cc-5lec and another one, this one from '94 shows CLEARLY at the beginning the Mercury Grille (I wonder If buyers ever wondered why it has a different logo...): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xg3htsry7Gc&feature=related . I went through all that trouble, anyone volunteer to write it into the article? I suck at editing articles... Alessandro Malfatti (talk) 22:33, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Headlight Changes edit

Looking at the picture of a 1986-87 Tempo, the headlights appear to be of the sealed beam type. However, the article indicates that the headlights were updated to flush-mounted headlights in '86. Is the car in the picture actually older than indicated, were there some cars that did not get the new headlights, or perhaps has someone retrofitted sealed beam headlights in a newer car? Or are those how the new headlights looked? --158.143.163.87 (talk) 15:00, 17 June 2009 (UTC) KeplerNikoReply

Looking closely at it, the car was obviously refitted with sealed-beam lamps. That photo should be replaced as soon as possible. --Sable232 (talk) 17:25, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why no mention of Escort heritage other than "related" mention in info box?Bachcell (talk) 20:27, 30 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

The Topaz was a rebadged Ford Tempo. I currently have its predecessor (Mercury Zephyr) tagged in a similar proposal for the Ford Fairmont article, and its successor (Mercury Mystique) is already a redirect to the Ford Contour article. (Which in itself could probably be merged into the Ford Mondeo article, but that's another story.) Any comments? Jgera5 (talk) 05:58, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
