Merge with mercury cougar? edit

This is just a badge engineered version of the mk8 mercury - does it really need its own article? 86.164.130.128 (talk) 12:08, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Yes, it does, because the Mercury Cougar of that generation is actually a badge-engineered version of this car, not the other way around. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 23:02, 18 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
    • How do you figure?? This model, sold from 1998 to 2002, was badged as a Ford in Europe and a Mercury in America. The model name Cougar was already a long-established product in America sold under the Mercury branding. Was the 98-02 model made in Europe and imported to America and sold with Mercury badging? Note that in America, there never was any significant difference between products sold as Mercuries and products sold as Fords, beyond their badging. This should not be confused, however, with the short-lived brand name Merkur, which Ford used as branding for North American sales of a couple of models produced in Germany, that I believe were just sold as Fords in America...

So I suppose the question comes down to, was this car produced in America or Europe? If in Europe, then I suppose leaving the article at Ford Cougar may be justified. If in America, then it should probably be merged into the Mercury Cougar article; OR, have this article be strictly for the European marketed versions of this model.
