Why are Dallas Cowboys ranked in first place? edit

Dallas Cowboys are ranked first at 4.0G USD while Forbes gives a listed worth of 3.2G USD that would place them second. On the list itself, a reference (marked [2] at the time of writing this) to overall value including debt is given, but there is no link provided to verify the information. I think the list should strictly follow the order given by Forbes on their list of the same name. Another list can be created (or two ranking systems on the same list) to include the corrections due to debt, given that a verifiable link can be provided to support the numbers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:14BA:7FC:7100:95F9:668A:8380:DEB1 (talk) 07:33, 26 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Is there an explanation of how forbes value each club? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.6.99.67 (talk) 23:10, 12 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

England or United Kingdom? edit

Should we not say "United Kingdom" for the country of Manchester United, Arsenal and the rest? 2602:306:CFEA:170:5C14:675B:1A33:3F4 (talk) 23:08, 14 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Manchester Utd and the rest are from the English Premier League. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own separate leagues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.46.120.168 (talk) 21:01, 2 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

I agree that United Kingdom makes more sense here (both in terms of listed country in the tables that include this field, and the choice of flag in the rest). I believe 'country' in this context means sovereign state, and that's the UK, not England.

I think that the geographical extent of the league that the team takes part in is not actually directly relevant to the question of what 'country' the team is listed as being from; these are two distinct fields that don't need to 'agree'.

In summary, using 'England' over 'United Kingdom' isn't a matter of factual accuracy, it's a stylistic choice that I disagree with. lukeuser (talk) 16:51, 11 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Football vs American Football edit

I've changed all the descriptions for Football (which refer to the American version of Football) to American Football. I feel this is clearer because the majority of the world does not call the sport simply football, and instead refers to soccer as football. Having 'football' as American Football and 'football' as Soccer seems clearer for all parties. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.46.120.168 (talk) 23:57, 2 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Soccer is Public schoolboy slang and - cf rugger, and the cricket commentators Blowers and Johnners. The name of the sport is AsSOCiation Football. Soc + er + soccer. If you are going to call the sport soccer, then american football should be gridiron or pigskin. 80.6.99.67 (talk) 23:08, 12 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

American Football should be changed to just Football. No American calls Football American Football. Thats what Europeans call Football I guess. I certainly never heard of it until seeing it all over Wikipedia recently with Wikipedia's European bias.24.44.67.66 (talk) 16:26, 8 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is an international encyclopedia with readers from around the World. Nearly the whole World mean association football when they say football. That includes Asia, Africa, South America, and most countries in North America. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:13, 6 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Flags for league edit

While I can see the benefit of including a national flag against each team, I don't see the point in having a flag for leagues. This is because, in the majority of cases, it is the same flag as for the team, and where they differ it doesn't really add anything useful. For example the Canadian flag for MLB is really just telling you that the Toronto Blue Jays exist, which is fine for a more general MLB article but not really relevant to the finances of the Yankees or Cubs. I will remove the league flags if there is no objection. --Jameboy (talk) 15:14, 28 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

No objections raised here after 6 weeks, so I went ahead and made the changes. --Jameboy (talk) 15:35, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

The Chicago Cubs have an error. edit

Either they’re not worth $7.8bn or they should be in 2nd place Roricka (talk) 04:42, 13 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you to whomever fixed it (or at least, made it consistent!). Roricka (talk) 17:18, 16 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ties edit

I don't think ties are properly represented. For example, if two teams are tied for 11th, the next team should be ranked 13th, not 12th. Otherwise by the time you get to the bottom of the list the 40th ranked team actually has ~45 ahead of them. 50.246.107.157 (talk) 03:52, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
