There's a wide disparity between 0.5 percent being hungry on any given day and 12 percent being "in a food insecure household". Which figure is applicable?

I think it depends on what argument you want to make with the statistics. If you want to say that hunger is "one of the most disturbing and extraordinary aspects of life in this very wealthy country" then you'll use the 12 percent figure: 1 out of 8, oh my gosh! If you want to say that hunger has been virtually eliminated in the U.S. (despite drug addiction and lunacy) then you'll use the 0.5 percent figure.

I think Wikipedia should be neutral - rather than trying to choose one over the other. --Uncle Ed 18:39, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
