Folorunsho "Folly" Coker is a Nigerian businessman, former managing director of the number plate production authority of the State of Lagos, and now the business adviser to the Governor of Lagos.

Folorunsho Coker is the son of Lagos chief, Folarin Coker.[2]

He was married to Folake Folarin-Coker, the daughter of Chief Bode Akindele, and founder of the Tiffany Amber fashion label.[2] He has remarried.[2]

Early life

Born on 27th July, 1965 to the Lagos families of Coker and Agoro. His father and Lagos High Chief Folarin Coker (Baba Eto of Lagos), is highly regarded in Lagos social circles. He Attended “Corona School” and “St Gregory’s College, Lagos” for primary and secondary school education respectively. He studied for A-Levels at St Bees School in Cumbria, England and graduated from Manchester University with a B.A. Hons. in Combined Studies. Thereafter he obtained, a Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Westminster, in London.

Career

Before his Public Service Career began in 1999, Folorunsho Coker as a business entrepreneur, owned the Lacasa brand. Prior to his present appointment, he served Lagos State Government in various capacities including; as Principal Aide to His Excellency, Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Founding Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority and as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts.

As the Lagos State Commissioner of Tourism, Arts & Culture he established a tourism roadmap for the state that aimed to re-tell the story of Lagos through the “ONE LAGOS” brand. [1]

The financing model was very private sector oriented and shows how government can partner with the private sector to deliver on its tourism agenda. [2]

As Director General, Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, he has conceived the ‘Tour Nigeria’ brand to drive domestic consumption of tourism assets and products in Nigeria, create new channels of expression, commercialize tourism and generate employment. The brand is hinged on the identification, exploration, exposition, enhancement and promotion of the creative assets across the country using sustainable approaches. [3]

Personal Life

Folorunsho Coker spends time at home or travelling with his family. He is a member of several social clubs in Lagos (Island Club, Yoruba Tennis Club, Metropolitan Club, Polo Club). He spends some time socializing and most passionately, boating at the Lagos Motor Boat Club.

He is happily married to Aisha Rimi, a legal practitioner and they have many children.
