Talk:Folk dance in India

Latest comment: 8 years ago by Surajme23

I dont think dances like kathakali , koodiyattam , yakshagana can be categorized as Folk dances. They are not classical dances since they are not based upon natyashastra of Bharata Muni(though koodiyattam may be based ) and also since they are not a part of the list of dances classified by Ministry of culture as culture, but certainly they cannot be termed as folk ... these dances are part of temple performances and hence can be said to be Temple artforms. An example of folk art will be kanyarkali, Kolattam , Thappattam,Theyyam, Bhootakola etc ... Hence removing these Temple dance forms from this list and adding a seperate article on temple artforms can be consiered. Surajme23 (talk) 08:02, 20 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
