Red-White-Red edit

@Sumek101 There was no flag for the Germans ("Austrians", although this term was generally not used. Since "Austrian nationalism" came after the Empires collapse) in the way that there were national flags for Hungary (and Croatia). The (multi-cultural) Austrian half (Cislethania) used the Black-Yellow, while the Kingdom of Hungary used the red-white-green. It is inaccurate to show as if the black-yellow was the "common flag" and that you then had the red-white-red and red-white green as the "sub-flags" (or "national flags") of the 2 halves. This is totally wrong. The red-white-red flag has old origions, but only became a "national flag" in the German rump-state that came out of the collapsed empire after WW1. The red-white-red was however used as the common ensign at sea for the entire empire for the state and navy. This is what the Russian book is showing. It was the "flag of of Austria(-Hungary)", but only at sea. It indeed even lists the civil/merchant "flag of Austria(-Hungary)" (also at sea), right after. These maritime flags are already listed in the article further down. Putting the red-white-red as the flag of Austria in the same category as Hungary, Croatia, and the Black-Yellow Habsburg/Cislethania flag is totally wrong and was never the sitatuion IRL. The opening paragraph even tells you as much when it details the usage of flags at embasses etc, as well as the photos in the article shohwing the joint use of Austrian (black-yellow) and Hungarian flags. @Havsjö: Please tag me with a link next time, because I just noticed your message now. The subject of Austro-Hungarian flags is familiar to me. I know that the red-white-red flag was not a "state flag", as none of the listed ones were officially. I included it because in the sources from the era it was mentioned as one of the important symbols (and not only as an ensign). Her motif was also used occasionally as an symbol of the of Austria proper in the empire, which is why I thought it was worth detailing. Placing this flag (in its unofficial character) in this section also explains to the reader why it was also used in other things (like propaganda materials, airplanes painting, navy and civil ensigns). Still, your argument also makes sense, so let's just keep it that way. Sumek101 (talk) 08:27, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
