Talk:Flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Why is someone changing 1992-1998 flag?!?!?!?!?! - 85.92.241.124

I'm not changing the flag of the independent Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina 1991-1998 but simply providing an image with a better designed flag. The flag that you prefer is poorly designed and looks like a drawing which does not make it look very realistic. Or in other words the flag does not have much of a realistic resemblance to the actual flag of the independent Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The flag I'm providing is much better designed and looks realistic. Also, it has a much better and stronger resemblance to the actual flag of the independent Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
PS. To anonymous user 85.92.241.124 and others. Next time feel free to sign your comments on wikipedia even as an anonymous user, so that others don't have to do it for you and so that it's known right a way whose comment it is. - Zec 14:46, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Now it's updated and corrected, if you have suggestion what should i correct? That flag is poor also so i wanted to create new one, but thanks, you can look again, i updated the image.

And?

I'm suggesting that we permanently replace the flag you're prefering with the flag that I've several times reverted to. - Zec 16:26, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I dont know why? That flag is to small that is reason for this flag, and i imported it into Corel and made all the shapes same and liliacs position (check it). So what's the problem? Please tell me that i could fix it. Respect. --85.92.241.95 16:32, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

What do you exactly mean the flag is to small? Also, I understand that the shield in the centre of the flag is very similar but the thing is that the design is better in the flag that I'm prefering. Don't you agree? What's more is that in your flag the shield is too big and takes up more place in the flag that it really should. - Zec 16:44, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
OK, you could said it earlier. Anyway, i will try to improve it so it can fit your needs. I meant on size of your preffered flag, it is small becuaze if you try google you will not find quality Bosnian liliac flag, i tried to fix that, and i will continue improving this one, but in all other wikis it passed except this. I will try to resize shield and maybe redesign liliacs. --85.92.241.95 16:50, 16 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Proposed flags edit

I would have to say that all of the Second Set of Proposal flags are much better than the current day flag. Yes, some of them would need ajustment, but the colors and design seem to be much nicer than the current day flag. The current one has nothing to do with the Bosnia at all, the Second Set flags tie in the whole country together into one flag. I wote this article with some only research help. I kept most of the information from the previous article. --Kseferovic

Screw the new flag and all the proposals, the best flag Bosnia ever had was the Bosnian Fleur-de-lis (Ljiljan) and we nd they should bring that flag back
Yes, it is true, I would want the "Ljiljan" back. However, due to the situation that Bosnia has gone through, it is very unlikely that it will come back soon. I do not see the issues that Serbians and Croatians have with that flag. Tvrtko, who was a Christian, used and created the design. So what is all the fuss about the flag being only a sign of Bosniaks (ethnic majority of Bosnia and Herzegovina who are muslims). I am a Bosniak myself and do support the old flag. However, I do not see the issue others have with it. --Kseferovic 22:15, 22 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge and renaming edit

This page appears largely redundant with List of Bosnian and Herzegovinian flags. I propose that information from both pages be consolidated here, and that this page be renamed Flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina to be consistent with the many other "Flag of ..." pages that describe national flags and their history. --ScottMainwaring 04:36, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nope... edit

Every other nation (most) have both "Flag of (country name)" and "List of (country name) flags"

The article Flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina has much more information than List of Bosnian and Herzegovinian flags. This is for one purpose. The list of is mainly there to show the pictures with some description information, while the article Flags of Bosnia and Herzegovina is there to give more information, along with images.

It is like that for every nation. For example, let's take the country of India:

  • BOTH incorporate the same images, except one is specifically for learning info, while the other is there to quickly glance over the flag images in a more easier way.
  • Deleting this would mean one would have to delete all of the other "List of (country name) flags"

Thanks, Kseferovic 18:46, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm all for consistency, and would be happy to see both a "Flag of B&H" (describing in detail the national flag) and a "List of B&H flags" (concisely listing the national flags as well as others in use in the country), if the "List of..." page covered a superset of the flags covered by the "Flag of..." page (as is the case for India, actually). But as you point out, the pages at present cover the identical set of flags: that's the redundancy. There does seem to be some info on the List page that doesn't appear in the Flag page -- e.g., the dates of Austro-Hungarian rule -- hence my suggestion for a merge. If more flags (municipal? provincial? political?) from Bosnia and Herzegovina could be added to the List page, that would be perhaps a better solution than a merge, but where are those flag images? I don't agree that one page should simply be an abridged version of the other. Finally, I think we both do agree on the renaming, from "Flags of..." to "Flag of..." for the page about the national flag. --ScottMainwaring 23:06, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I will add the Cantonal flags (Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Regional flags (Republika Srpska). Also, just so you know, the flag of Republika Srpska will have to be changed by September due to the Constituional Court of BiH ruling that it conveyed way too much Serbian nationalism in BiH. The CCCC (4 S) [C in cyrillic is S] is a Serbian symbol that the Constitutional Court of BiH is trying to remove from the coat of arms of Republika Srpska. I will state this in the additions. --Kseferovic 00:09, 10 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

Who decided on the flag? The Minister of War (Peace) 09:51, 11 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

On what flag? If you are asking about the new one, then the answer is European Union with the outside world. I know, it is sad... Vseferović 05:35, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
You guys had no say on the decision to pick a new national flag? I'm just wondering because the new one's hideous -- especially when compared to the 1991-1998 flag (quite well-designed from a vexological standpoint). I'd imagine that the decision to adopt this monstrosity couldn't have been too popular with the Bosnians. How did the EU get away with stuffing this piece of crap down the throat of the Bosnian people?

Well, if I'm not mistaken, Carlos Westendorp had to choose from the most "neutral" of all flags since neither party (I'm talking about Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks alike) seemed to like any other proposal that much because everybody would find one or other aspect of any flags not being appropriate for their own ethnicity. That is really the sad part of all of this; the war had caused so much hatred amongst people that the slightest allusion to others' symbols was enough to reject them, so new ones had to be created from scratch. Simply, someone had to draw a line and put a feet on the issue and Mr. Westendorp did it. Nothing to do, IMHO, with "stuffing pieces of crap" down anyone's throats. Which I find disgusting.

Tvrtko edit

Another old flag? edit

How about the flag (presumably Bosnian, it resembles very much the today's) from this old map from 1504? --93.86.103.113 (talk) 23:23, 24 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

wrong number of stars? edit

Can only count 8 (maybe 9) stars in the first proposal flag that is very similar to the current flag. Text above states 10 stars.80.154.120.247 (talk) 22:27, 22 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that too, and given that I'm not the only one I will just go ahead and correct it. 212.139.202.203 (talk) 01:58, 18 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
