Crabbing edit

I grew up in Maryland in the US, a place famous for crabs. I was surprised to find that Wikipedia is lacking an article on crabbing. The word crabbing redirects to the crab disambiguation page, which isn't sufficient to my mind. I'm editing an article for Cheesequake State Park in New Jersey and will be adding an internal link to crabbing. Someone who knows the crabbing topic better than I might consider adding some detail to the stub I'll be soon posting. Also, the Pot disambiguation page has a dead link to Fishing pot, which is described as a pot for crabbing. I'm more familiar with a trap with collapsible sides that captures crabs by luring them with chicken fat attached to the center of the trap, which is raised periodically via a long chain or rope, often from a bridge or pier. A model for such an article is the lobster trap article. --Pat (talk) 03:12, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

There is a new article called Crab fisheries which needs more development, though you are right, there is nothing much so far on crabbing. --Geronimo20 (talk) 04:36, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pole and Line edit

How about adding Pole and Line fishing. It took a lot of research hard to find info about it. I guess the difference is that the hook has no barbs, so the fish releases by itself on the deck of the boat. Increasingly common for sustainable tuna fishing. Something about less bycatch. 71.139.166.86 (talk) 19:13, 6 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Christ catches fish using a miracle technique edit

@DeCausa: First, you say Jesus' method of catching fish was "a one off event". It was not. His method is specifically mentioned in the Bible as having been used on at least two entirely separate occasions, and there is no reason to think Jesus did not use this as his preferred technique on other occasions. There are probably similar accounts around the world of the generalised version of this technique, which is to get your most trusted avatar of a deity to tell you where to catch the fish.

Second, your view that miracle fish catching is not a "technique" seems a bit, well, strange. Bear in mind that a "technique" is just a way or method of doing something. If you explain how something is done then you are explaining its technique. Although you might dispute how effective the method is, I don't see how you can think that Jesus' miracle approach to catching fish is not a way of catching fish, and therefore is a fishing method or a fishing technique.

There there is no problem finding reliable sources stating it is a "technique". Here are two from the top at Google Books:

Although Jesus... tells his disciples to cast their empty net to the other side of the boat for the large catch (21:6), there is never any reference to Jesus' method or technique in accomplishing these feats.[1]
The same process is walked out in the miraculous catch of fish... Jesus tells his disciples that, having obeyed Him for the sake of obedience in casting their nets, they will later be catching men with the same technique – obedience for its own sake.[2]

Christs' miracle technique of fishing is one of the most prominent of all known ways of fishing, much better known than something called haaf net fishing which I have never heard of before. Please observe wp:brd and do not edit war. Do not revert again, unless you can find compelling reliable sources which explain, for example, why the above sources are mistaken. — Epipelagic (talk) 03:03, 30 June 2020(UTC)

Firstly, @Epipelagic: "please don't edit war" in your edit summary and "Please observe wp:brd and do not edit war. Do not revert again," in your above post!! WTF?? I reverted you once. You reverted twice: me once and somebody else once. Do you usually throw around "edit war" everytime a long-standing editor reverts you once? Secondly, I've seen some bonkers disputes on WP over the last ten years but this would certainly qualify for WP:LAME if I were to engage with you on this. All I can say is that your post is truly bizarre - and I'm happy to drop out out of this. I look forward to reading about Feeding of the Five Thousand in Catering and Turning water into wine in Winemaking. DeCausa (talk) 08:54, 30 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the planet has gone splendidly mad, and I'm trying my best to fit in :) — Epipelagic (talk) 09:09, 30 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Ok. Have I misread the situation? Is this an elaborate wind-up (for reasons which are not obvious to me) DeCausa (talk) 09:22, 30 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
