Fair use rationale for Image:First Offense.JPG edit

Image:First Offense.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

To meet the more rigorous criteria of the revised B class, this article needs improved sourcing to help readers verify the accuracy of information. Additional improvements may also be necessary. Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums/Assessment for additional information on B class in album articles. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:50, 27 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Updating release date of First Offense to November 1983 edit

The article currently has the release date of "First Offense" as April 1984. It also goes into quite a bit of detail about the album including info on two reissues. However, a significant number of sources state the album was released in 1983 and often specifically November 1983.

Most notable of these sources is Hart's own website. The discography page gives the date as "November 1983". This is presumably the release date but it is not explicitly stated. Two other pages on Hart's site have a differing release date for the album, namely:

Jenny Fey - Inside The Music says:
Released on Corey Hart's "First Offence" [sic] Album, November 1983
It Ain’t Enough - In The Music says:
'First Offense' Album 1984.

Both of those pages are said to have been written by Hart himself though that may just refer to the body of the page and not the "introductory text" which Hart may not have done himself.

Other authoritative, though not necessarily correct, sites that have November 1983 are:

secondhandsongs.com
Cashbox Canada:
Released in Canada November 1983, ‘First Offense’ received a lukewarm response.

Similar sites that just have "1983" are:

Canadian Music Hall of Fame
It wasn’t until 1983, though, that Hart released his own debut full-length album: First Offense.
discogs.com
This particular release stated to be a reissue, has both ℗ 1983 and © 1983.
rateyourmusic.com:
It specifically lists Canadian releases Aquarius AQR-537 and "AQR 537 Rev." as being released in 1983. However, rateyourmusic.com does have its share of incorrect data in my experience.

On the other hand, allmusic.com has the release date as 1984. That site, like rateyourmusic.com has its share of incorrect data.

What to make of all this: One would hope that the discography on Hart's own site is correct. Similar for the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. The "℗ 1983" and "© 1983" that can be seen in the album artwork on the discogs.com link above would almost always indicate a release year of 1983 but that is not certain. It's possible that the 1984 dates are reissues or US issues. It's possible that the November 1983 date was posted once somewhere and copied to numerous sites without verification. This is actually why I am so picky with music info on Wikipedia - it is so widely copy/pasted without any further checks.

This is a bold edit, to be sure. If this is wrong, I hope it generates a discussion with more accurate sources resulting in solid data on this site. In that case, please accept my apologies.

Note that the 1983 in music page currently has the release date as April 1983. I will update this to November 1983. If this date turns out to be incorrect, that page should be updated as well as the relevant Corey Hart pages.
