Legal definitions

The legal definitions section is growing, and I think, becoming rather WP:UNDUE in size. This article is not "List of definitions of firearms". Surely we don't need a full definition from every country, just a general definition, and how some countries vary from that. (Hohum @) 15:50, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

One way to do that could be to remove the US definition which does contain useless poorly sourced details and to remove the definition for South-Africa, small country ranked 24th for area and population. The fact that the term firearm is defined by a local law, could be kept anyway.
Definitions from international treaties might be those which give the most international meaning.
Other definitions are interesting ones because they provide pieces of information about what should be considered or not considered as a firearm, giving variations of what can be or cannot be considered as a firearm. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.193.104.201 (talk) 14:25, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
Agreed. I'm also concerned about prominence. The first thing a reader sees after the lead is legal definitions - hardly what they might expect immediately for almost any article. (Hohum @) 14:31, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

Merge the "Firearm as a blunt weapon" article into the wider "Firearm" article?

The notability of Firearm as a blunt weapon might not be enough per WP:GNG to be an article in its own right. However, that article's basis could complement the main Firearm article as if it's a piece of major information under Point 1B of the WP:FACRITERIA. LunafreyaLaphicet (talk) 04:38, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

  • Use of a firearm as a blunt weapon is a common and well-known alternative use, as can be determined from centuries of documented military training, among other sources. I'd say that just from the short length of what's at Firearm as a blunt weapon should justify merging it into Firearm. -- Frotz(talk) 19:06, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
Are you willing to do it? LunafreyaLaphicet (talk) 02:49, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

Please remove this:

In armed robberies, beating the victims with firearms is a more common way to complete the robbery, rather than to shoot or stab them.

and add this:

In armed robberies, beating the victims with firearms is a more common way to complete the robbery, rather than shooting or stabbing them.

It's not good to mix infinitives and participles, and "to beat" would sound weird here. 175.39.61.121 (talk) 05:06, 15 September 2022 (UTC)

In the same section as the previous edit request, there's a link [[close combat|close quarter fighting]]. Please replace it with [[close-quarters combat|close-quarters fighting]]. 175.39.61.121 (talk) 05:12, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
