I have started an article on fine roots. This topic deserves its own article because (a) fine roots are definitionally and functionally distinct from roots in general; (b) there is sufficient primary and secondary literature to support a Wikipedia article on fine roots; and (c) the topic of fine roots includes more information than could be included in a subsection of the Root page. While there are many subtopics of fine roots, I focused on including topics that distinguish fine roots from general roots, such as definition, functions, and ecological interactions. While topics like anatomical/morphological structures and growth/development could be included in this article, these structures and processes are similar in fine roots to those of general roots. Since these topics are already discussed in the general Root article, they do not need to be included in the Fine root article. In the future, sections about fine-root seasonality, lifespan, evolution/adaptation, and economic importance may be incorporated as these topics receive more broad coverage in secondary literature. As of right now, the articles I found covering these topics are specific to certain plant groups or ecosystems, so general statements about these fine-root topics are not supported by literature.
