Ficus carica, the common fig cultivated worldwide, is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC among all things called "fig", and having a disambiguation page at the base title comes out as an astonishment. While plant and animal common names often pose ambiguity (cf. bean/common bean, raven/common raven), here it does not really exist: F. carica is the only species from some 850 in the genus Ficus that is called simply "fig", and that article says that Many fig species are grown for their fruits, though only Ficus carica is cultivated to any extent for this purpose. The related species are commonly called something fig (weeping fig, sacred fig etc.). This is basically the same situation as with apple (Malus domestica), the primary one among many related apples from the genus Malus. No such user (talk) 11:43, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Support – I'm surprised it wasn't already at the base name to be honest. Sean Stephens (talk) 08:07, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. I agree that Common fig is the primary topic by long-term signifance and by usage (see massviews [1]). Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 15:35, 2 August 2021 (UTC) I'm also surprised at how popular figging is!Reply
