"Bespeccled Face" edit

Bespectacled=wears glasses Bespeckled=has skin blemishes Both of these could be said about Fernando. Let's pick one (or both) and spell it/them correctly.

Under Construction edit

I'm in the process of trying to clean-up this article, per the July 2006 tag. I still have much work to do, but I would appreciate feedback on the edits I've made so far. This is among my first real attempts at becoming a contributor. Thanks! AGratz 05:11, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I removed the tag without looking at the talk page, because I didn't think it was necessary any more. So good work on whatever changes you made. --Djrobgordon 17:01, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Stats versus Giants / Roger Craig Quote edit

I deleted the career statistics versus the San Francisco Giants as well as the quote from former Giants manager Roger Craig, as I was unable to confirm the statistics or find an attribution for the quote. Here's the paragraph, which I edited:

Further endearing him to Dodger fans during his eleven seasons with Los Angeles were Valenzuela's amazing statistics against the team's arch-rivals, the San Francisco Giants: 33 wins - including 10 one-hitters - against just 2 losses, with an overall earned run average of 1.15. Former Giant manager Roger Craig once said watching Fernando pitch was like listening to a musical composition of Bach or Brian Wilson.

It's great stuff, and I'll be happy to see it re-included if anyone can tell me where the information comes from.

Plagiarism edit

A lot of this seems plagiarized directly from http://www.biographybase.com/biography/Valenzuela_Fernando.html - superβεεcat  20:12, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I did some digging, and saw that their page was made in January 2005. Our article here in 2004 was the same, so that plus their note that they copied from us says that our article's fine. Wizardman 17:07, 13 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Eyelids edit

There is nothing in this article about his famous: 'I breath through my eyelids' approach to pitching. That should be in here. 209.86.226.54 (talk) 01:23, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

World Series '88 edit

I understand he was injured, but wasn't Fernando on the Dodgers in 1988? Or is he not a World Series champ because he want on the ws roster? So in 1988 after shoulder problems he was placed in the National League DL in the 1988 season Major League Baseball states that though he did not play or was a part of the World Series roster he still is awarded the WS because he was a part of the 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers roster that season. If he was in a Dodgers affiliate Minor League Roster during the Playoffs then he does not win a World Series title, but he technically was in the Dodgers roster not a Minor League roster therefore he is a 2x WS champ both with the Los Angeles Dodgers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.74.175.46 (talk) 23:30, 23 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

We don't list people as WS champs unless they were on the post-season roster. !Spanneraol (talk) 00:14, 10 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Can you source this, Spanneraol? "We don't list people as WS champs unless they were on the post-season roster." Where is this written, besides here? It doesn't seem to apply to other sports, why specifically baseball. Very confusing and vague. I know if I change it a mindless, evil bot will change it back for no reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.26.75.97 (talk) 05:16, 28 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Mexican teams edit

Should we include the Mexican teams he played for in addition to the list of MLB teams he played for? We always included Japanese MLB players' list of NPB teams they played for. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.16.190.1 (talk) 10:31, 6 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
