Hello! The article looks like it is very close to GA. I have a couple of qualms, mostly prose related, but those should be fixed quickly. I'll have my comments up soon.

The article has great content and is generally well written. The prose occasionaly suffers from redundancy, making the article sometimes confusing. For example, Frank's wife considered his name to be unfavorable to her taste and gave him the nickname "Ferb," an original name uncommon in the world. could be reduced to Frank's wife disliked his name and gave him the unusual nickname "Ferb".. "an original name" and "uncommon in the world" mean the same thing, and "considered his name to be unfavorable to her taste" is padded with unnecessary words. Aim to be clear and concise, and try User:Tony1/Redundancy exercises: removing fluff from your writing.

What makes these sources reliable?

  • Full info can be found at the article Buzznet. Interview site. Referenced in a couple of news sources, too.
  • Resource411 looks okay. I'm less certain about Buzznet, but I won't hold the GAR back if you'll reduce dependency on the source. In other words, delete the quotes sourced by Buzznet and find a different source for "Ferb and his father Lawrence hail from the United Kingdom". Liqudlucktalk 08:03, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
  •   Done (Different source found, quotes removed) The Flash {talk} 17:42, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Lead edit

  • I'm guessing Ferb's age is not given, so I recommend adding that they are spending their 'summer holidays or summer vacation from school' to the lead. This at once provides more context and establishes that Ferb is of school age.
  • ...nicknamed him "Ferb;" Povenmire and Marsh each share a friendship with Frank, who owns several tools and was considered a fitting choice to be Ferb's namesake. Change to "...nicknamed him "Ferb". Frank, a mutual friend of both Povenmire and Marsh, owns several tools...".
  • His design is based around that of a rectangle and mirrors the style of late animator Tex Avery. Scratch "that of" and it sounds like this should be "inspired by" rather than "mirrors".

Role in Phineas and Ferb edit

  • "His birth mother" -> "Ferb's birth mother"
  • You mention his sister twice later on in the article; can she be added to this section?
  • Sorry; I meant add the name "Candace" and mention she's his step-sister. Liqudlucktalk 08:23, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • As far as I can tell, Phineas generally concieves/directs the projects while Ferb constructs them. Are there any sources backing me up on this? Otherwise, ignore this comment.

Character edit

  • The quote box is rather hard to read. Please change the background color to a lighter shade; I suggest maize (color), hex code #FBEC5D, but you can choose any color.
  • Unless Phineas and Ferb are the only characters Povenmire and Marsh concieved, remove "and his stepbrother Phineas" from the first sentence.
  • "Their conception was based around the two's boyhood days of summer vacation" -- who is the "two" here?
  • "Marsh and Povenmire chose the name because they felt Frank's personality was fitting for Ferb, though he does not carry the same silent conventions the character does." I'm not sure what this sentence means.
  • It means that although Ferb and Frank bear similar traits, Frank talks a lot, even though Ferb almost never does. The Flash {talk} 04:09, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • "However, after citing comedy's "big duos" including..." It sounds like this should be "However, after considering comedy's "big duos" including..."
  • I suggest moving the first paragraph of Development to the beginning of the Personality paragraph and renaming Development "Design and voice".
  • "...Ferb is described as "think[ing] how,"..." as opposed to what? Add that, and the sentence will make more sense.
  • Delete it. I didn't notice the Youtube source earlier, but the account doesn't appear official and so violates Disney's copyright. Liqudlucktalk 09:11, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • I changed the source to the actual promo, but it'd be perfectly understandable if you want me to still delete it. The Flash {talk} 17:42, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Quite a bit of redudancy in this section- I'm copy-editing right now.
  • New "Povenmire and Marsh constructed storyboards and recorded it" --recorded what?

Reception edit

  • Add a {{clear}} template above the header.
  • Move Jean Yoo's quote up to Personality. As a spokesperson, he isn't going to say anything bad of Ferb so his opinion can't be quoted here.
  • Thank you for moving it. Now that it is in the personality section, it directly preceeds the statement "Though this is generally not commented on in the series, Phineas mentions it while he and his brother were in England.". Does Phineas comment on the deepness of Ferb's lines, or the fact that he only speaks one line? Liqudlucktalk 09:25, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • The fact that he only speaks one line ("I'll be the top half since I tend to do more of the talking[...]") The Flash {talk} 17:42, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • We try to avoid being in universe, so instead of saying "Ferb sings", credit the actual song singer. In fact, whoever sings for him should be added to the voice paragraph.

Images edit

  • All images need alt text per WP:ALT
  • I'm not certain File:Phineas-n-Ferbenstein.jpg meets the fair use criteria. Breaking the fourth wall is not discussed in the article, and it doesn't seem to do much for the reader. I suggest replacing the image with one of Ferb and Phineas working on an outrageous project, preferably with Phineas speaking.

That's about it. Nice work! Liqudlucktalk 21:44, 28 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Last stretch edit

Thank you for responding to my comments quickly. Last few:

  • Delete "In official promos for the series, Ferb is described as "think[ing] how" — coming up with with new ideas and never letting a day be ordinary or bland.", unless a new source can be found. Since it isn't mentioned in the promo, trying to interpret what "thinks how" means ourselves is original research.
  • Now that the first paragraph of development has been moved down, the quote box no longer belongs there. I don't care either way, but either switch the Sangster pic and the quote box or convert the quote to prose and add it to the voice section.
  • Can something more deep than "Well, [Buford] was all up in my face" be used in order to validate Jean Yoo's comments? If you'd like, the Buford quote can be kept, but tack on a third Ferb line.
  •   Done ("Candace, we are just kids" — that works right? shows how he understands the limits to what he and Phin can do) The Flash {talk} 23:50, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • The actual singer, rather than Ferb, needs to be credited for Gitchee Gitchee Goo.
  • Marsh and Povenmire chose the name because they felt Frank's personality was fitting for Ferb, though he does not carry the same silent conventions the character does. Thank you for explaining above. Can a new source be found for this statement? Text or an official site is always better than Youtube.
  • Actually, it may be at YouTube, but it's from MSN. It's like an archive from a video they deleted, but I don't have the link to the defunct video. I can easily replace, it, though, if that doesn't suffice. The Flash {talk} 23:50, 29 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Replace, please. It looks like it is supposed to be Martella's official Youtube, but it isn't linked from his website, which is the only place I could of to verify it. Even if it was his, he's still technically violating MSN's copyright (unless he has permission, but there's no way to check that). Liqudlucktalk 00:38, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Result edit

I'm pleased to pass this article. It is informative, neutral, and well written. It provides surrprisingly good, well referenced coverage of a cartoon character from a series just two seasons long. Images are appropriate and, to the best of my knowledge, the article complies with the MOS required of a Good Article. As a successful nominator, I encourage you to review an article yourself. Thank you for the review! Yes, I've actually listed a few articles I'm going to review at GAN on my user page, so I'll get to those soon. The Flash {talk} 19:42, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
