Map: I'm suggesting an overall area map, a bit like the one here, for example. The standard route diagram wouldn't do, as the route hasn't been fixed yet. I haven't the skill, I'm afraid. --Old Moonraker (talk) 18:06, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Welland ?

edit

Is there a mistake on the map (of the proposed routes for the new navigations) because I cannot find anywhere called Welland on the map, or even in my Ordanance Survey Gazatteer.--JustinSmith (talk) 13:05, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Good to know that someone is overlooking this stuff. It's linked in the article. Best. --Old Moonraker (talk) 13:13, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ahh I see, it`s the river ! Maybe it`s just me but where the text is it looks like a town or village, though I accept, on looking closely at it, it is in light blue rather then white. The thing is I printed the map out on my company printer, which is black and white only ! —Preceding unsigned comment added by JustinSmith (talkcontribs) 16:22, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Over a very slow timescale I'm re-drawing this map using as a base a NASA image, with real height data, rather than the "artistic" shading used at present. Any suggestions regarding clarity of layout and format welcome. --Old Moonraker (talk) 08:30, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The confusion was probably down to myself and the fact my printer was B&W, but it`d be less likely if the rivers were prefixed by "River", or just "R". --JustinSmith (talk) 12:14, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Good idea. Watch this space, but not just yet! --Old Moonraker (talk) 12:18, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Added to the old map, as the new one will be a very long time. Thanks, once again, for the suggestion. --Old Moonraker (talk) 10:02, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think that`s fine. Incidentally, do you know where the Old Bedford River turns into the River Delph before joining the New Bedford river ? The names of the two waterways all seem a bit interchangeable there. As far as I could tell (from my OS map and Google Earth) it`s actually the Old Bedford river which runs into the New Bedford river. A counter drain appears on the West of the Old Bedford river and it is that into which the Forty Foot drain enters via Welches Lock. It`s all so confusing. What`s the explanation ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by JustinSmith (talkcontribs) 12:40, 22 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Never noticed that before. By the time the two channels get to Welney, they seem to have swapped names. I'll be watching for the result of your appeal at Talk:Old Bedford River with great attention! --Old Moonraker (talk) 16:01, 22 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Page 10 of this boating guide suggests that the counter drain becomes the Old Bedford River at the point to which tides flow. Doesn't help with the Delph, though. --Old Moonraker (talk) 16:16, 22 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Looked for the point on the map, but only the New Bedford River is tidal that far up. Looks like I misread it: they are just using both names "Old Bedford/Counter Drain" because they don't know either. Sorry. --Old Moonraker (talk) 16:49, 22 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Italics

edit

Why are some features' names in italics? Does it follow some MOS rule or some other internal logic, or what? I am sorry if I am being dim but I'm unable to see what it is. Thanks and best wishes (or indeed best Washes I suppose, hoho) DBaK (talk) 17:39, 20 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

No idea, but I took the opportunity of reverting to plain text, while I was there. Thanks for your patience!--217.155.32.221 (talk) 13:09, 11 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
