Please keep the list of alumni alphabetised.--Karljoos (talk) 15:18, 31 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Partner Universities

edit

This section lists the universities with which the HfM has Erasmus or Leonardo agreements. This section is not relevant for the article (does not provide important info about the school, and makes the article sound like a promotional viewbook/prospectus) and also these things change continuosly. I am removing the section. --Karljoos (talk) 09:18, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Same goes for the section on tuition fees and student canteens. The info is not relevant for an encyclopedia. --Karljoos (talk) 09:21, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hochschule für Musik Leipzig or University of Music Leipzig

edit

Next time you want to move or rename a category please discuss it first, if you don't mind. Hochschule means, literally "high school", so if you want to be precise, the word "University" wouldn't be the precise word. Also, there's a german word for university, Universität. Also, keep in mind, that until recent times, German hochschules offered only one official academic degree (Diplom) - something between a bachelor and a master -, and that other post-diplom courses had no official value. I am reverting your changes. If you want to change the name, please discuss it first. --Karljoos (talk) 02:33, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please visit the official website in German and see what's the official name of the school.--Karljoos (talk) 02:39, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • When moving an article to the official name, it is not necessary to discuss it. There is a link to the English homepage at the bottom of the article, and it seems you didn't even bother to look at that. Please do not revert edits on the basis of such sloppy research.
  • You're confusing articles and categories. Moving or renaming categories should indeed only be done after discussion. In fact, it's not possible otherwise because there's no move tab on a category. Here's an introduction to the topic: Wikipedia:FAQ/Categorization#Can_categories_be_renamed.2C_moved.2C_or_redirected.3F
  • It's completely irrelevant what incorrect, literal translations are. The correct translation of hochschule is university, and you are no doubt the only person claiming to be fluent in both English and German who claims otherwise. You should look in a German-German dictionary and do some reading at hochschule and espec

ially de:hochschule to clear out the cobwebs. I'll save you some time and quote the relevant passage here: Viele Fachhochschulen bezeichnen sich seit einigen Jahren kürzer als Hochschule, meist zusammen mit dem Fachgebiet, beispielsweise 'Hochschule für Wirtschaft'. --Espoo (talk) 05:47, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Don't forget that there're differences between a Universität and a Hochschule (there are no research degrees in Hochschules). I really think the name more appropiate would be "college", but whatever, I will not waste my time on this matter. There's no need, though, to be so arrogant. Ones last thing: the official name of the Hochschule includes "Felix Mendelssohn", so it would be great if you could add it. --Karljoos (talk) 06:05, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Are you seriously claiming that you think the people deciding on the official English name were and are less informed about these issues than you? Do you seriously think they made this decision without contacting a lot of experts, each of whom knows more about this issue than you ever will? Who's being arrogant? I tried hard to be less arrogant than you, but it seems i didn't succeed. Sorry about that, but wie man in den Wald hineinruft, so schallt es heraus... --Espoo (talk) 06:36, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
There is no need to add Mendelssohn's name to the already long lemma since there is only one university of music and theater in Leipzig, see Columbia University in the City of New York at Columbia_University, University of Heidelberg, University of Marburg, etc. --Espoo (talk) 06:40, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
There's no need to whatever you say there's no need, of course.--Karljoos (talk) 09:19, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
