ICC guidelines - what counts as first class?

To be first class, the country must be a part of the ICC. India joined in 1926. Therefore, any matches involving India prior to 1926 don't count as first class. Therefore, T. K. Sukumaran did not play any first class matches, and should not be asserted as such. This isn't a difficult question. Cricket Archive quite clearly got it wrong. Cricinfo on the other hand, and the entire rest of the internet, who all assert that these were NOT first class matches, got it right. Myrrideon (talk) 06:17, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

"To be first class, the country must be a part of the ICC." - Not so. By that definition, you rule out more than a century of first-class cricket in England, around 90 years of first-class cricket in Ireland and Scotland, around 50 years of first-class cricket in Sri Lanka and Australia, around 40 years of first-class cricket in New Zealand, the West Indies and India and around 20 years of first-class cricket in South Africa. You'd also rule out all but two of the 100 or so first-class matches played by teams in and from the USA, including the entire first-class career of Bart King, who has a featured article on him on this site!
