The article says the BND is "directly subordinated to the Chancellor's Office." The info box says the "responsible minister" is Helge Braun, Federal Minister of Special Affairs. Which is it? Are there federal ministers in the Chancellor's Office? Venqax (talk) 21:13, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

  • First of all, this article is already named "Federal Intelligence Service (Germany)", so no argument has been made that it should be named something else until now, and that is outside the scope of this primary topic-related debate on "Federal Intelligence Service (Germany)" vs. "Federal Intelligence Service."
  • Secondly, the website you are referring to uses the German form of the name, Bundesnachrichtendienst, as its proper name, and only includes the sentence "the foreign intelligence service of Germany" in a purely descriptive and uncapitalized (not capitalized as you claimed) manner.
  • Thirdly, the name "Federal Intelligence Service" seems to be very well established in English language sources as the English name of the BND over the past 60+ years. For example, a Google Books search returns 3,370 results for "BND" AND "federal intelligence service" and 2,870 results for "BND" AND "foreign intelligence service", but: in the first case "Federal Intelligence Service" is used as the (capitalized) name of the service, and in the second case "foreign intelligence service" is overwhelmingly (over 90%) merely used as an (uncapitalized) description of the service.
