CornSearchBot edit

Created "False scent" and moved some (not all) content out of "False Scent". Have put in move request to make titles more distinct, but since I think both have equal weight am reluctant to judge myself which should have main billing or whether "False scent" should be a DAB page"-- would like comments from others first in an attempt to find consensus (though in practice I doubt there will be much comment). Should be in wiktionary? edit

This may better belong in Wiktionary but I don't edit that. Though the lead is definitely a definition, it is arguable that the Fowler definition is not (Fowler quite often used odd titles for articles e.g. "out of the frying pan" which some may suggest would not belong in a straightforward dictionary, though the full title of MEU is "A Dictionary of Modern English Usage".) Garden Path Sentence edit

Can someone explain how this is different to a Garden Path Sentence? As far as I can tell they are the same thing, viewed from stylistic and linguistic points of view, respectively. At the very least, this should be mentioned in the article, but I think one should consider merging the two. L.livnev (talk) 22:58, 14 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

This clearly needs to be merged into the longer article. Correctrix (talk) 22:20, 18 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Red herring? edit

Currently the preamble includes text:

"Aniseed, a red herring or the entrails of a rabbit are commonly used for this purpose."

Note that the link red herring refers to an article about the idiom and the logical fallacy, while the other links in the sentence refer to a plant and an animal. @Mathglot: I tried to change the link red herring to Red herring (fish) - can someone explain why my edit was reverted? @Utricularia tubulata:, your edit was correct; I've corrected my error. Mathglot (talk) 22:27, 23 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
