RfC to select best image for the infobox

There is a clear consensus that "option A: Clocktower daytime scene", File:Clocktower Faisalabad, Panorama.jpg, better represents the city clocktower for the infobox when compared to "option B: Clocktower night scene", File:Clock Tower Faisalabad by Usman Nadeem.jpg. One RfC participant noted:

Why does it have to be limited to just these two, when commons has a fair few more to choose from, such as this one which is a better angle than the suggested daylight (A) one, but more natural in portrayal than the night (B) one. Personally, I am not particularly convinced by either of the two suggested, but would ask why any others available aren't under consideration?

There is no prejudice against opening a new RfC to discuss whether another image would be better than A.

(A) Clocktower daytime scene

(B) Clocktower night scene

Choose one of the following two images that best represents the city clocktower for the infobox: (A) or (B). 16:47, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

Survey

  • A - a more realistic view. Atsme Talk 📧 16:47, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
  • A probably, although I was initially going to recommends B. scope_creepTalk 13:37, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
  • A. While B is a much more striking image (perhaps a good fit for Clock Tower, Faisalabad) - it shows less of surrounding city and is less realistic - particularly the light lines. Icewhiz (talk) 10:14, 8 April 2019 (UTC)

Bold edits

Wasi Haider, the montage in the infobox looks good and what I consider to be an improvement to the article. Having said that, I do believe it is important that I alert you to the long standing RfC discussion directly above this section. You reverted the clocktower image despite WP:Consensus policy. The RfC close states: There is no prejudice against opening a new RfC to discuss whether another image would be better than A. For future reference, if you had simply started a discussion here first, it would have been the best approach and least controversial. Articles that have been promoted to WP:GA and WP:FA status typically have "stewards" watching them. I realize that you are a new editor and I want to encourage you to edit wisely, learn our policies, and be mindful of past talk page discussions and RfCs before making bold edits, particularly articles that have been promoted. Happy editing! Atsme Talk 📧 17:05, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

Images

I personally think the selection of images is... not good. The picture of the clocktower was *much* better as a clear daytime photo. The night shot looks cheesy and is hard to see in the montage. It looks like it was added because someone thought it was "cool" looking. Why was this changed? Was there any consensus?

Also, the 4 photos underneath look pretty unremarkable too. Its important not to just add images for the sake of adding images, but to add images that are of notable sites. The picture of the Auditorium is questionable because its visually just a block of brown, but the Model College picture is just terrible because its blurry and not particularly noteworthy.

And the canal picture isn't particularly noteworthy either, and I doubt its even in Faisalabad. If a picture of a canal is to be included, then a better image should be selected. What do you think? If there's no opposition, I'd like to effect some changes to the montage.

The Uni of Agriculture is more notable to Faisalabad than Model College. And the tomb of Lyall is relevant to the city since it was founded as Lyallpur. Plus, the canal pic was probably taken in a rural area instead of the city. Alishernavoi (talk) 22:54, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

Jhal chowk, Faisalabad
I agree that the daytime clocktower image would be better as it depicts reality rather than the night photo which is by design meant to be "artistic" - consensus agreed as well. With regards to the other images in the montage, we need images that portray what is mentioned in the lead and depicts why Faisalasbad is the "third-most-populous city in Pakistan, and the second-largest in the eastern province of Punjab." Agriculture and textiles comes to mind. The canals throughout are indeed notable, and not something people see every day in or around a metropolis. It is a notable achievement that aids in crop production which is a mainstay. I am open to your suggestions for different images or an entirely different approach but let's discuss it first. Our goals are the same - to present a quality article that maintains the standard of GA. I thank you for your input and look forward to your suggestions. Atsme Talk 📧 23:19, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Y If you can find better quality images of larger universities, let us know. There are quite a few on Flickr but no CC licenses that I can find. I found the image on the right - Jhal chowk - but would prefer a quality image of the street venders or Sunday bizzarre or textiles if you can find any that have a CC license. Actually, I found an image that shows the irrigation canal, traffic/lifestyle, and the full Jhal Chowk interchange - the picture of a thousand words. Atsme Talk 📧 11:38, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
