Fair use rationale for Image:GL - Eyecatch.jpg

edit

Image:GL - Eyecatch.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The German (Deutsch) link to "Blickfang" is incorrect. Though "eyecatch" when translated literally, the German article deals with something entirely different. I have deleted the link. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.60.30.200 (talk) 16:31, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Question:
What is to be considered to be the ENGLISH equivalent to GERMAN "Blickfang" -- Eyecatcher (also Eye-catcher) is widely used in 20th+21th century German for "Blickfang", see eg http://www.duden.de/definition/eyecatcher. --[w.] 08:50, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Note that Eyecatcher in German mostly refers to print media, and, for sure, to visual STUFF (might even be, eg., some strange typography). [w.] 09:04, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Merger?

edit

It seems to me that an "eyecatch" is nothing more than a specialized type of commercial bumper. Since "commercial bumper" is the more widely used term (being global, instead of specific to Japan like "eyecatch"), I think that eyecatch should be merged with commercial bumper. The eyecatch article doesn't even really say much, anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.104.94.236 (talk) 07:00, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agree, but: WHO.THE.HELL will be sufficiantly courageous to attempt such merge? [I, for myself, will not, my English being less than perfect.] --[w.] 08:57, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, after checking the quoted article I notice that it is about RADIO -- there is, however, the German term Eyecatcher which is used just for visually "attractive" pics or typography. So, the required merger might be by far more difficult than I thought, a few minutes ago. [w.] 09:10, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
