Evening dressEvening attire – Per WP:PRECISION (disambiguate from evening gown), and WP:CONSISTENCY in accordance with equivalent articles such as day attire, semi-formal attire, informal attire, casual attire, etc. Chicbyaccident (talk) 13:32, 24 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Support, especially since "evening dress" outside of a military context means a specific item of women's clothing.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  14:19, 24 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Well, this is a dab page, and that's one of the entries on it. Dekimasuよ! 17:05, 24 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment - these are two separate disambiguation pages, so your request should presumably be to merge them under the "Evening attire" title. Paintspot Infez (talk) 04:01, 25 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Paintspot: They have now been merged here. Not only the question remains about its article name. Please feel free to provide your opinion. Chicbyaccident (talk) 13:59, 26 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes - now that page is further updated to illustrate the redundant, double content location. Chicbyaccident (talk) 09:20, 25 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, per common name and per this n-gram where 'evening attire' is hardly even a thing. And the article 'Evening attire', which was added to after this RM began, has an invalid wiki dictionary link (page doesn't exist). Randy Kryn (talk) 10:31, 25 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
While the n-gram may be taken into account, its relevance should also be evaluated in terms of WP:PRECISION and 21st century customs from credible print and non-print sources. Mere quantity, judging from a timespan when the expression "evening dress" was considered less archaic, should probably be handled carefully. Most importantly, however, please note that the n-gram does not disambiguate when the context actually makes the term or expression refer to an evening gown rather than to evening attire which the discussion is about here. Chicbyaccident (talk) 10:58, 25 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • As it stands, this is not a move request, and a close won't end with a merge unless you have a relatively cooperative closer (see WP:DEMAND). I suggest withdrawing the proposal and discussing the possibility of a merge separately. Dekimasuよ! 20:33, 25 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Dekimasu: The two duplicate disambiguation pages have now been restored per your remark. So the rename request discussion may contintue without any other complications. Chicbyaccident (talk) 13:59, 26 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Don't see the point in moving this dab page, especially if the present title is the common name as shown above.--Cúchullain t/c 13:43, 2 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Evening dressEvening wear – Per WP:CONSISTENCY with Formal wear and Semi-formal wear, as emphasised by Talk:Formal wear. PPEMES (talk) 21:13, 18 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose per common name shown by the n-grams. Randy Kryn (talk) 02:15, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • @Randy Kryn: I'd be careful about uncritically accepting those stats. Evening dress can have another meaning. If you click through to the Google books results for that term (from the ngrams page), you'll see plenty of false positive matches. Colin M (talk) 06:37, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
      • This is a disambiguation page, so it includes all meanings. The Wiktionary link goes to Evening dress. The ngrams are enough to show that readers aren't being confused by the page title, and can sort out what they came to find. Randy Kryn (talk) 11:25, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
        • Oops, yeah, you're right. Sorry, I was confused. Colin M (talk) 18:20, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
          • Thanks. I'm usually confused and think I'm on Everipedia. And sorry is for horses (or something like that). Randy Kryn (talk) 20:11, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. Evening dress is the commonest generic term for the styles known as Black tie and White tie and the female equivalents. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:27, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose this is common terminology. Barca (talk) 17:40, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment. Should this article wording harmonise with Day attire? PPEMES (talk) 22:20, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
