I don't know how to refute a revision where Nikkimaria undid my adding in a note about watervoles in Redwall, because the site wasn't reliable. Is there something I should know about how Wikipedia works?

Species name

Reference style?

Great fixes! Now it is easier to read about the northern and southwestern populations more easily. One thing puzzles me: why did you add a reference in Harvard style? If Harvard style is the preferred style for zoology articles, then we should change the other refs from footnote to Harvard. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 10:58, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry. I try to avoid the articles that have switched to the complex reference format, but this was just too straightforward to pass up.

Eventually I think Arvicola should be moved to water vole, and the text here should move to European Water Vole or Eurasian Water Vole. --Aranae 17:07, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

I thought that seemed odd, but I am not in any way a zoologist. There may be some double redirects for whoever moves Water Vole to fix. I don't think they should be moved yet, though, as the European is the only interesting article; the genus and the other 2 species are just stubs.

The old reference template system was actually more complex than the new system. However, these articles had no references. I just bunged in a couple of references with the new <ref> tags because they seemed easy to me. If you want to switch them to Harvard that is fine by me. Scottish water voles

I've come across this BBC Wildlife Magazine information: "Scottish water voles have a completely different ancestry to their southern cousins across the border. Voles to the south of Scotland migrated over from south east Europe, recolonizing after the Ice Age. Scottish voles came from the Iberian Peninsula."[1] which I gather means there are Arvicola amphibius in England & Wales and Arvicola sapidus in Scotland. I think the article should mention this, but I've no idea where to put it. Any takers? --Droigheann (talk) 22:37, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

You cannot 'gather' any such thing, Arvicola sapidus is not on the UK mammal list. William Avery (talk) 11:31, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

Given that the list was created in 2004 and seems to be largely based on a 1995 reference, while the Southwestern water vole was, according to its article, given a full species status only in 2005, this doesn't surprise me. Just saying. --Droigheann (talk) 02:17, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
