New Schools

Does anyone know if the opening of new schools is being considered and where? This could be information for a new section. 70.156.143.136 00:34, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

There are plans for Luxembourg II, but a site has not been settled on as far as I know. Ravenhurst, students at the European school (like myself) are educated on the culture of Europe as a whole. There is nothing to stop them acquiring a "national culture" of their own accord, and their parents will often bring them up with one.Matthew CB Allen

Luxembourg II has been officially running since 2004. However, it has been in temporary premises until 2012.158.169.40.10 (talk) 20:28, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

There are a number of type II 'accredited' schools which have been setup by member states to educate the staff of various EU agencies

   * Scuola per l’Europa Parma – Italie (Type II). Agence: EFSA (European Food Safety Authority)
   * Centre for european Schooling Dunshaughlin – Irlande (Type II). Agence: European Food and Veterinary Office (FVO)
   * School of European Education Héraklion – Grèce (Type II). Agence: ENISA (Agence Européenne chargée de la sécurité des réseaux et de l'information)
   * European Schooling Helsinki – Finlande (Type II). Agence : AEPC (Agence Européenne des Produits Chimiques)
   * Enseignement Européen à Strasbourg - France (Type II). Institutions européennes : Parlement Européen et le Médiateur de l'Union Européenne .

and also type III schools, which seem to be other schools that seek to provide similar schooling, presumably so that they can offer the European Baccalaureate. Maccheek (talk) 13:10, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Private school?

I realise the European school falls into a rather unique category, but I was under the impression that it was classed as a state school because of the system of entitlement. Can somebody confirm this? At my school in Luxembourg I though it was this status that allowed school infrastructure (buildings, equipment etc.) to be funded by the Luxembourg government. Matthew, you are fully right. Also, the funding of the school for most of its students comes from public institutions and many teachers are paid by national Ministries of Education. A fee is required for some students, but I think that the correct description is "public school with limited access". I'll change that on the main article. escorial82

Sorry to be picky, but in Britain, a 'public school' is a private school so maybe it's better to call it a government-funded school? Jwpkanutin (talk) 08:30, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Irrelevant information

The CoSup presidency names are totally useless and irrelevant here, on the verge of "personal ambition"... The Wiki reader certainly does not need them. I think of deleting them. Students' Achievements and Famous Alumni

This list was conceived by the 2011-2012 Pupils Committee of the European School of Brussels III. It aims at promoting the value of the education of Europeans Schools and build on their achievements, as other schools do. Bettylella (talk) 16:01, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Achievements and Alumni section

The "Students' achievements" and "Famous Alumni" sections are inaccurate and smack of self-promotion.

For example, Belgium didn't win the European rugby championship in 2012, so 4 entries in the Achievements section are patently false (or 3, after removing a duplicate entry from there).

Many of the people in the "Famous alumni" section seem non-notable (an heiress? illustrator? random actors and journalists?), and lack references. Page name (redirect)

I believe the page's name should be changed to "European Schools" as it talks about the schools' system, and not one school alone. However, that article already exists as a redirect back to here, preventing me from moving it. I propose the redirect and article should be switched around. Respectfully disagree, as they worked there just to help the transition for former students and staff, there were no students there for the last eight months ^{well, Culham itself, Europa School UK had students, but it's not the same}, therefore it wasn't much of a school. European Schools → European School – WP:PLURAL. The term "European School" is used 57 times in this article, including in the infobox. The term is spelled that way in the title of the Statute that established this type of school. "European School" denotes a type of school, there's nothing special about the plural form. Just because there is more than one "Comprehensive school" or "Grammar school", each a type of school established by law, does not mean we put those articles at the plural.

Respectfully disagree, the statute you are referring to is titled the "Convention defining the Statute of the European Schools", in the plural (also cf. Article 1, "This Convention defines the Statute of the European Schools (hereinafter referred to as 'Schools`)").

@Marksomnian: (ec) I should have linked to #Page_name_(redirect) above also, I did not mean to imply that the bold move was in any way out of process. The text says the first school (singular) was established by the "the 1957 Statute of the European School". I can see your point, but the fact of the matter is that this article discusses what a European School is: that a body might be called "(blah) of European Schools" is less relevant, I think. Part of the trouble is really just WP:ARTCON: sometimes "Schools" alone is given an initial cap, when really the schools severally are meant, not some body known as "European Schools". 94.21.10.204 (talk) 09:56, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

• Support per WP:SINGULAR. This is not an intrinsically plural-form topic like "scissors". I've read all the above, and this should be at European School for the same reason World Heritage Site and a zillion other articles are not plural. There is no case for pluralizing this one, as it is not exceptional/unusual in any way that would near-require pluralization.  — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼  06:43, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

The last discussion on moving the article seems to have been rushed by editors who didn't take the time to familiarise themselves with the topic. The article name should have been preserved for the international organisation formed by treaty entitled, as per its official name, the "European Schools", with distinct and seperate articles created for the two types of educational establishments the organisation manages "European School" and "Accredited European School".109.87.48.66 (talk) 18:45, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
