History and Objective sections edit
The current version contains insufficient and outdated information. For example, there are now 14 members states (not 6) and thus the "112 centres" is no longer correct. The statement that ECRIN has a transatlantic link with Canada could be misleading as this information cannot be found on the ECRIN website. Also, ECRIN does not promote any disease-specific research as the current wiki page claims. Please refer to the ECRIN homepage for confirmation and reference. In addition to these inaccuracies and others, these sections can use a bit of a grammar check. So, I propose the following text to replace the “History” and “Objective” section of the current version:
" The European Clinical Research Infrastructures Network (ECRIN, http://www.ecrin.org) is a not-for-profit infrastructure supporting multinational clinical research projects in Europe. ECRIN provides information and consultancy and facilitates services to investigators and sponsors in the preparation and in the conduct of multinational clinical studies, for any category of clinical research and in any disease area. ECRIN is composed of European national networks of clinical research centres and clinical trials units. For each national network there is an ECRIN European Correspondent. ECRIN started in 2004 with a diagnostic step identifying main bottlenecks in order to define strategies for future development of pan-European infrastructure for clinical research. This phase was funded by the Sixth Framework Programme ([1]). In second step (ECRIN-TWG, 2006-2008, also funded by the FP6 Health priority), procedures and guidelines to support investigators and sponsors in multinational clinical research projects in the EU were prepared by transnational working groups. The third step is the ECRIN preparation phase (ECRIN PPI) which is funded by the Seventh Framework Programme [2]. In 2010, 14 European countries are represented in ECRIN (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and United Kingdom), collectively representing approximately 83% of the population in Europe ([3]. Removing Bottlenecks section edit
On the current version, the “ten-point set of initiatives” were ECRIN working topics in 2006/2007 thus, by saying "being developed" is inaccurate. I suggest the following text to replace this section:
"ECRIN activities include: 1) ECRIN working parties, European Correspondents and the Network Committee meet annually. 2) The International Clinical Trials’ Day (ICTD) was founded by ECRIN in 2005. Each year, the International Clinical Trials' Day is celebrated around the world on or near the 20th of May in order to celebrate the day that James Lind [4] started his famous trial on scurvy in 1747. Every year ECRIN hosts a celebration of ICTD in a European city."Linasaem (talk) 13:58, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
