Talk:Ethiopian Regiment

Plagiarism? edit

The awkward language here, and, in particular, the use of archaicisms, leads me to suspect that this text actually comes from some print source. I notice that two print sources are listed, but they are not actually cited in the text anywhere. I'm not rushing in to change anything, in case I'm off base, but I wanted to call attention to it to see what others thought.

The left-hand figure in the illustration appears to be a member of the black regiment raised in Rhode Island and fighting in the continental army, not Dunmore's Ethiopian Regiment. Note the anchor on his cap. Who then is the other figure? For all we know he too is quite possibly a continental and not a loyalist. Where is the picture from? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.192.69.5 (talk) 20:23, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

You are correct, the illustration is not of one of Dunmore's Ethiopians, but a Continental soldier from Rhode Island. It comes from a set of drawings made by Jean-Baptiste-Antoine DeVerger during the siege of Yorktown. The other soldier shown is from the 2nd Canadian (Congress' Own) Regiment.
