I don't think the term ethical extensionism was coined by Des Jardins in an introductory textbook. I suspect it may have been J. Baird Callicott. I believe the argument he uses to justify Aldo Leopold's land ethic would qualify as extensionism (and IIRC, he abandoned the position as untenable).
