Calque? edit

We state this is a French calque, but I don't know why. Aren't calques word-for-word translations from another language? Like "flea market" is an English calque of the French "marché aux puces" ("market with fleas"), or "gratte-ciel" ("scrapes-sky") is a French calque of the English "skyscraper". In this case, esprit de corps isn't translated from French, it is French. Is the French phrase a word-for-word translation of some other language phrase? I haven't seen anything supporting that.

I've added "citation needed" for this. If no one responds after a while, I'll just remove "calque". --A D Monroe III (talk) 20:49, 25 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
