Its a matter of geography. Espitisismo is the term used in the latin culture. The beleifs are the same while the methods and rituals may be structured slightly different. I would assume that a good comparison may be the difference between orthodox and roman catholics. While the beliefs may be the same, the rituals differ due to the geographical and cultural differences. Therefor the difference truely stands between the regions not the words. Even if you take the word in spanish "Espiritismo" to refer to the practice in Cuba, it is different from the practice in Panama or Guatemala and so on. One would have to study each area within both latin and anglo terms in order to define the true diffences. --- ALL YOU SAY HERE ABOUT SPIRITISM IS PLAIN WRONG. You are confusing Spiritism with mediumship and xamanism. Spiritism is Christian philosophy, not a way to contact the Spirits or heal people. Spiritism is very serious thing. You can check it on the site of the World Spiritist Council, on spiritist dot org. With due respect, Santeria, Voodoo, Quimbanda, etc., are NOT Spiritism. Those religions include the contact with the Spirits world, but so does almost every religion, under different names (Jesus spoke with Moses and Eliah on the Tabor, so Spirits are a reality to every religion). The world Spiritism was coined in 1857 by Allan Kardec, on "The Book of Spirits", the basic opus in Spiritism. There's no thing such as "white table spiritism". That was the way some people called Spiritism in countries such as Brasil. Those popular and wrong concepts cannot make school! There is only ONE Spiritism. In the English speaking nations there's a paralel movement called New Spiritualism (see Fox Sister), but that is not Spiritism either. Spiritism is philosophy, Christian morals, and observation science. Spiritism was brought by the Spirits, not invented by a man. Spiritism pilars are: God exists and is is infinitly perfect; There's no angels or devils, only people as us, living in the material or in the spiritual world; we reeincarnate; there's inteligent life all over the Universe. Spiritism is not a religion strictu sensu, because has not chiefs, professionals, rituals, supernatural beliefs, specials proceedings, etc.. Spiritism is racional faith. It takes a lot of study to understand Spiritism. Eceryone can study it. Spiritism is open to everybody, it has nothing esoteric or secret. Spiritism is free, no Spiritist activities or services are paid and spiritists does not accept any pay. Then again: spiritist dot org.
