opposition links

I have re-inserted the link to Kuhl for Congress. I think it is valuable for pages on candidates for political office to have links to their opponents pages because they provide an opposing view to the information on the candidate's own page. Additionally, the opponent is mentioned within the text of the article and the his page provides information on an important person mentioned with the article. I watch Randy Kuhl's page as well as Massa's and ensure reciprocity in the matter. I will continue to maintain the reciprocal links until someone convinces me of the folly of my ways (which is pretty easy to do) or unless there is a wikipedia policy discouraging this. Surname

What is the ethnic origin of Massa's surname? 131.123.231.143 21:30, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

My belief was that it was Italian. Evidence: [1] enter "Massa" in the blank labled "Cognome" which is Italian for surname. There is a limoncello called "Villa Massa" which comes from Sorrento, near Naples. --Cjs56 16:28, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

August, 2009 Comments

While Massa did say he would vote against the "interests" of his district, he quickly corrected himself to say "opinions." As the rest of his statements support the fact that he meant, "opinions" rather than "interests" I think it is disingenuous to include the original and unamended statement in the text as it was likely an accident. --Cjs56 (talk) 19:46, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

I see what you are saying, however I disagree that including his original statement is disingenuous. For starters, how else are his constituents to express their views and interests if not through their opinions? Also, regardless of which word he used, at the end of the day it boils down to this: An elected representative stating, quite clearly and on multiple occasions, that he will vote against the wishes of (as he admits) a majority of his constituents. After all, he is an elected representative, a paid employee of his constituents. It is the duty of a representative to vote in accordance with the wishes of a majority of his (or her) constituents, not to go to Washington and decide for himself what is in the best interests of the people. The latter course leads inevitably to tyranny. So again, while the wording may be slightly different, the intent is not, which is why I do not find it in the least but disingenuous. So far it looks like just Politico is reporting on the allegations - other sources seem to be citing the Politico story. While it looks like Rep. Hoyer has gone on record with the allegations, I think we need to see a couple more major sources carrying independent confirmation on this story before it rises to the level of BLP. Clarification of the statement on "cancer scare"

On Congressman Massa's own website, the statement was:

"This last December I underwent my third major cancer recurrence scare."

This does not say that he had cancer, or was given markers of cancer. Only that he had another cancer scare. How can this be "cancer"? He has yet, in any statement, to clarify that he has cancer.

Something is weird about this Wikipedia biography and the reporting on it. News reports claim he made sexual advance/comments to a young male staffer - is that implying that Massa is homosexual????, or was it case of, say, him calling the staffer a "faggot", etc, i.e. ridiculing him. This bio doesn't make any sense with its truncated version. Massa seemed to making noises about maybe not actually resigning his House seat, given his dissatisfaction with the Democratic leadership. Is it confirmed that he has in fact resigned, or are we just going off his 3/5 statement? SS451 (talk) 01:45, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Electoral history is inaccurate. Randy Kuhl improved his score by 0.8% in 2006, not 51.5%

In the 2006 chart, it states that Randy Kuhl, who obtained 51.5% of the vote, improved his score by 51.5%, implying that it was his first attempt at being elected or that his score in a previous election had been 0.0%. In fact, the record for the New York's 29th congressional district shows that in 2004, Randy Kuhl was elected with 50.7% of the vote. His score in 2006 would then have been a +0.8% improvement from the 2004 election, and not +51.5% as stated in the Eric Massa article. Oclupak (talk) 13:26, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
