Talk:Eosuchia

Latest comment: 6 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

I do believe that Eosuchia is an Order (not a Genus) which includes SubOrder Araeoscelida [Family Araeoscelidae] Genus Araeoscelis and Petrolacosaurus; and possibly SubOrder Millerosaurida [Family Millerettidae] Genus Milleretta (which is indicated to two totally different orders on other wiki pages). But I'm just a hobbiest, I'll leave the editing to someone professional who would have better data. Ed

For Edwin H Colbert (cf his Evolution of the Vertebrates) and those who followed his lead, who reprsented a consensus of authority back in the 1950s and 1960s, all diapsids (excluding the euryapsids) were to be split into lepidosaurs and archosaurs. In this classification, there were three orders of lepidosaur: Squamata, the snakes and lizards including ancestral forms; Rhynchocephalia, the rhynchosaurs and sphenodontids; and Eosuchia, everything else. Hence the Champsosaurs, now a part of Order Choristodera, were among the families referred to Eosuchia and lead to the "survived into the Eocene" comment. Possibly revising the text to reflect a reference to this now-outmoded classification will help clarify references to Eosuchia in older literature for readers.172.162.105.210 21:31, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
