Discussion edit

Seems a bit odd to state that on one hand, Harris wrote scripts for the filmed television series Sharpe and on the other hand that he has no relevant qualifications to lecture in screenwriting? 86.42.207.98 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 21:34, 13 September 2008 (UTC).Reply

Keep an eye on this article. Harris appears to visit this site sometimes. Some of the rewrites that keep cropping up in the article sounds either like his work or those of his minions. 83.71.45.164 00:43, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mary McAleese was in fact a tribal time bomb edit

Mary McAleese speaking about Nazis at Auschwitz liberation celebration in 2005:

They gave to their children an irrational hatred of Jews in the same way that people in Northern Ireland transmitted to their children an irrational hatred of Catholics, in the same way that people give to their children an outrageous and irrational hatred of those who are of different colour and all of those things.

Whatever you say about Eoghan Harris (and I personally disagree with a lot of his views), his prediction about Mary McAleese was spot-on. The assumption that Protestants were/are the only bigots in Northern Ireland is a deeply contemptuous one, and is proof of McAleese's latent tribal mentality.

I think it is extremely important to add her quote to that particular section.

In what way was Mary McAleese's quote inaccurate? She did not actually claim that Unionists were Nazis, or that they were in anything like the same league, only that their attitude was equally irrational. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eggball (talkcontribs) 10:56, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Are you for real, mister? In what way was Harris ever correct in his assessment of McAleese? He was wrong, as is invariably the case with Eoghan Harris. The guy's a clown, a useful clown to O'Reilly's Independent Newspapers rags - but a clown nonetheless. Look at the public comments underneath his articles on Independent.ie to get a taste of public views on the eejit. 109.77.125.55 (talk) 14:50, 10 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

No secret branches edit

The Ned Stapleton Cumann was not in fact a secret branch (cumann) of the Workers' Party. If it was it was a very poorly kept secret since the branch regularly put down motions at party Ard Fheiseanna and its name appears regularly in old Ard Fheis clr (1988 being an example). It's speakers openly identified themselves on the platform of the Ard Fheis as being members of that cumann. I believe Eamonn Smullen was a member of the Ned Stapleton Cumann. I've removed the word "secret" from the sentence concerning the Ned Stapleton Cumann. Knockadooma

I've removed the sentence "The apparent inconsistency between expecting others to suspend judgment until the full performance of due process in the case of Mr. Ahern, and his own pronouncement on Mr. Gilmartin already, is notable" in regard to Harris's appearance on RTE on Dec 4 2007. This is not because I necessarily disagree with the sentiment, but rather because it doesn't actually need to be said. At this point, the inconsistencies of Eoghan Harris go far beyond rebuttals of hobgoblins and little minds, in my opinion, but it isn't really appropriate in a biographical article like this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eggball (talkcontribs) 11:57, 7 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Clean up required edit

I fixed one thing and found another problem, another problem, another problem. Unfortunately, I don't really care about this article, so as far as I'm concerned I've done my bit and will move on, but I suggest that interested people give the article a read-through. The cruft is fairly obvious.

One thing I'll highlight is that we have to remember to keep WP articles timeless. I removed one "Harris is soon to..." sentence, but I also see a section title "recent controversies". That'll be incorrect in a few years, or maybe it's already incorrect (maybe the content is no longer recent), I don't know. A solution that sometimes works in similar situations is to call the section "Controversies during his time in/as X". Hope that helps. --Gronky (talk) 23:33, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Year of Birth edit

Come on people, we have all this information and yet I have no clue how old he is by reading it! EchetusXe (talk) 19:09, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Constance Harris edit

Is Constance Harris, who writes on fashion in the Sunday Independent Eoghan's daughter? If so, the article should say so. Millbanks (talk) 19:45, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Constance Harris is Eoghan Harris' daughter. See here. Snappy (talk) 07:29, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Imagine that: Eoghan Harris, sycophant extraordinaire, also engages in nepotism. How he even finds the time to lecture the rest of us on "good morals" is beyond me. 109.77.125.55 (talk) 14:50, 10 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
