The result of the proposal was PAGE MOVED to Environmental effects of biodiesel, which makes a lot of sense. There does not seem to be a consensus to change "biodiesel" to "biofuel", but should such a consensus develop, that would be easy enough to do. -GTBacchus(talk) 01:01, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Environmental effects of biodieselEnvironmental impact of biodiesel – In the 2008 move discussion for this article, it was suggested that "environmental effects" is a more appropriate phrase than "environmental impact" because "environmental effects" is the more commonly used term in titles of articles of this type and because the word "impact" seemed restrictive. Since then, the "Environmental impact of x" title format has become the standard title format for articles of this type; this article is the only one that employs a different title format. All of the effects of biodiesel on the environment are within the scope of biodiesel's environmental impact; the term does not further restrict what can be discussed in the article. There is no semantic difference between this article's use of the term "environmental effects" and all the other article's titles' use of the term "environmental impact", so there is no reason for this article to vary from the standard title format. Deforestation

edit

Johnfos has deleted the section on Deforestation. I agree that the section needs rewriting (I didn't write it) but I feel strongly that it should be put back here. The question of deforestation to grow palm oil for biodiesel, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia is a hot topic in the news. I think an encyclopaedia should include a discussion of this. I recently visited Indonesia and was horrified at the destruction of the natural habitat of the gentle endangered Sumatran Elephant, to grow palm oil so that we in the West can drive our diesel cars and feel smug about using biodiesel. Hi Sylvia, please try re-writing the section emphasising the relevance to biodiesel and using reliable sources... Johnfos (talk) 21:09, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
