Genre: Black?

Should they even have the black metal label in genre? They say themselves (in the referenced interview) that although they share musical elements with black metal, they're missing the key element, which is Satanism, something which never fit them. Black metal is pretty synonymous with Satanic imagery and content, but even with their old style Enslaved has always had more of a Pagan/Norse lean to them. They call themselves Extreme Metal and Progressive Metal, but stay away from the term Black. Other than blast beats and snarling vocals, their last several albums have been more prog-rock anyway. 68.237.142.26 (talk) 19:24, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

This section has some confusion regarding language. From about 700-1350, there existed a language called Old Norse, mainly spoken in Scandinavia and Iceland. This language had three main dialects: Old Norwegian, Old Icelandic and East Norse (spoken in Sweden and Denmark). In other words, Old Norwegian and Old Norse are one and the same. However, what another has stated on this page is incorrect regarding modern Icelandic, which is not Old Norse. Old Norse is a dead language, and Icelandic happens to be closer to that language than the Scandinavian languages. However, saying that Icelandic people speak Old Norse would be like saying modern English speakers speak Middle English.

Started a page on Ruun but until a full tracklist is out I can't finish it.

Can you please englight me how one may differentiate Icelandic, Old Norse and "ancient Norwegian", when the three are essentially the same langauge?

Progressive Metal

Can somebody tell me a song where progressive metal elements are used? If there is no response, if will have to delete progressive word in the article. --Λeternus 19:01, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Prog thing

Isa and Ruun are the proofs for Enslaved's progressive influences. Also, they mention about it, too. They are listener of Prog.Rock bands. Search some interviews on the net and you will find Grutle's statements.

I agree with those statements, but I don't see why even their old albums have been labelled progressive metal just because the band plays in that style now. Their first few albums are clearly Viking/Black Metal, so I don't see why they've been labelled something they aren't just because of their three or so newest albums. --Gpmuscillo (talk) 12:48, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Progressive metal

Just about every reliable metal site on the net say they're progressive metal in one way or another. If not progressive they are pretty avant-garde or experimental. What I added above isn't opinion... but reliable sources calling them progressive metal so as long as it can be verified it will stay. References should not be in the infobox anyway. FireCrystal (talk) 21:36, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Add a section on their musical style and put the sources there. Who says that references shouldn't be in the Infobox? It would make sense to include them there to verify the statements in there so people just don't come by and add anything to the article. It would if you can find a reliable source that those albums have gothic elements though good look finding a source on this. Opinions or assumptions don't work here at Wikipedia. I could say "in my opinion, Enslaved have no gothic elements at all" and that's called original research. As to the above (from yesterday), I wasn't too sure what to think when you removed progressive metal the second time, as I thought it was enough to say "see talk" because the sources were on this talk page though that is old news now.
