Ennerdale Water a reservoir? edit

I'm surprised by this, does anyone have a link to more details? (when was the dam built, how much did the water level rise?) Google is unhelpful or my google-fu is weak.

For what it's worth, the OS map shows two small weirs, not a dam, not that that contradicts the article. Heliocentric 17:58, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

Yes, its a reservoir. There's a little bit at [1] about it. The water level was only raised a little so only a weir exists. A new water treatment plant and tunnel was built in the 1990s. I was born in the area and the tap water was always fantastic. My chemisty teacher use to say that, before the new treatment works came online (and the chlorination level increased) the tap water was almost as pure as that produced by the lab deioniser.
BTW, have you noticed the 'sex change' that occurs to the water through the lake? It flows in as the river Liza, and leaves as the river Ehen. miterdale 20:57, 3 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
