Lede

I and another editor have had a disagreement over what belongs in the lede. I feel that its ratings success is a notable factor worth mentioning in the lede, while the other editor disagrees (you can see the history for the changes I've made, and the other editor has reverted). I reverted his edit because his addition was simply to add 'after just two episodes' after the renewal line. I've never personally seen a TV show page on Wikipedia for any of the major networks shows do this. Most simply do 'On *date here* *network here* renewed *show here* for a *season number here*. Sorry, I just noted that the article is sourcing from the ratings, I wanted to incorporate what you had posted into the reception area as that is where I felt it belonged, as it noted episode numbers beyond the article describing the first five. Feel free to reword it if its poor, you also didn't need to attack my contribution calling it 'bland'. Anyway that's all that I will say on this subject. That said, the reason that most series don't mention how many episodes have aired when the renewal occurs—and why I wouldn't mention it in most articles—is that it typically occurs much later in the season. It's almost unprecedented for a network to have enough faith in a show to renew it that soon. Samer (talk) 17:44, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Splitting Empire Season 1 OS

There doesn't seem to be (correct me if I'm wrong and one exists somewhere) a proposal listed on this talk page that concerns splitting the soundtrack section out of this page and into an article.

"Empire discography" page / "Singles and songs" section

Hi everyone,

I'd like to suggest that there is either a new page for the discography of 'Empire' OR instead of listing the soundtrack etc., just another page called "Singles and songs" (like what they've done with the TV show 'Nashville' at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nashville_discography#Singles_and_songs)

I'm happy to start working on this as I think it'd be a good way for people to be able to quickly find a song they're looking for, what episode it was in, who performed it etc. Thoughts?

Sounds like a great idea. I can help out as needed can pull official producer/songwriter credits for each song released as a single and not on the album from the description section of new official music-only YouTube entires. Here's an example for "Lola" from 1.10, "Sins of the Father": (written by Jim Beanz/James Washington & Justin Bostwick and produced by The Placementz: Justin Bostwick and TroiBoi). These are auto-generated by Youtube based on the info sent in by the studio/record label, so they should be fine for referencing. --FuriousFreddy (talk) 12:09, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

Color Coded Ratings Chart

What's with all the color coding on the ratings chart? And there isn't even a key to tell what each color means. --Babar Suhail (talk) 07:27, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

Basic traffic light colors to show whether ratings increased, were steady/unchanged or decreased. ie, green, amber, red It's common on ratings spreadsheets to show the tread at a glance. helmboy 11:49, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

That's because most ratings are taken from zap2it, which edit and round figures to two decimal places. showbuzz post screen grabs of filtered spreadsheet data, which uses trend coloring. Only problem is they don't post final broadcast rating figures. helmboy 00:33, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Also I'm not sure why DVR metrics are needed as they are not very useful due to the even smaller sampling of selected DVRs and most advertisers wont look at them due to DVRs being able to skip through ads. Really only the live viewers and advert targeted demo are what's important. helmboy 11:57, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

I removed as no page on Wikipedia has such color charts, and there's no explanation for them either, it's just a scattering of color on a ratings table. It doesn't belong there. @86.15.195.205: First there is no debate against it and second comments from anonymous editors should be ignored. The ignorance of not using trend coloring just because no one thought of it is shortsighted as the coloring give a at a glance idea of how the show is rating. As for DVR ratings, they still only a minor indicator to a broadcaster and not the advertiser, which are who determine the fate of a show. Trending on social media rates higher with advertisers than DVR ratings. helmboy 23:17, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

Color codes

Hi everyone! I can't help but notice that both season 1 and season use the same bgcolor. I always thought that different shades were supposed to be utilized per season. Or is it proper to use the same color for all seasons? I suggest grey to be used for the main article for season 2. Thanks Nyanchoka : talk 2 me 12:58, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

I have NO idea, but I suspect that

1.) if it debuted in 2015 the only thing that could have happened was filming/production began in 2014?

2.) "2014. Fox." is this maybe trying to tell us which company is responsible for the show's production?

Characters

Hakeem

• "[...] and has a great relationship with Jamal. He has relationships with Tiana, Camilla, Anika, Valentina, and Laura."

Now this is a little bit of a problem. If the second "relationships" is a euphemism for "sex" or "romantic involvement" then the first one means ... yup!

• "Hakeem starts to find feelings for his mother, Cookie"

may need to be changed to at least explain what those feelings are, otherwise it seems to imply "a boy starts to have feelings for a girl" ... yup, in this case it is his mother we are saying he "starts to find feelings for"

Vernon

• "He was accidentally murdered ..."

I have added a clarify tag - for example, if it was her shooting at someone else and killing him, then we should be saying just "murdered", or if she was on the run after a felony "felony murdered", or if she was simply negligent "depraved-heart murder" (or similar)

Production

• para 1: "On November 19, it" - it should have the year, or be written as "19 November". Rather than change it, I am guessing the year is 2014 (from the ref)?
• para 2: " Lee Daniels," removed from exec prod as the info box does not list him there, only as creator
