Derivation of name

The article states that:

The name Chelan is a Salish Indian word that can mean both lake and blue water.

However, the photo caption contradicts this:

The word Chelan comes from the Indian word tsillian, which means "deep water."

Any ideas on which is (or whether both are) correct? Any references? -- BlueCanoe 01:08, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Depth of Lake Chelan

• The EPA website reference states that the "...depth of Lake Chelan is 1486 feet..." and cites this reference (Patmont, C.R., G.J. Pelletier, E.B. Welch, and C.C. Ebbesmeyer. 1989. Lake Chelan water quality assessment. Prepared by Harper Owes, Inc. for Washington State Department of Ecology, Olympia, Washington). While I realize the geology.com reference claims "1419 feet", the EPA reference seems significantly more reliable based on WP:ATTRIB. Pic needs to be moved a bit

Source for "9th deepest in the world" comment not correct!

Lake Chelan is in fact not the 9th deepest in the world. While it is quite deep, the source that makes this claim is not a complete reference. Here is a more complete source that disproves the claim; http://home.comcast.net/~igpl/Lakes.html

Geez, that is really sad whahappened with that school bus going into the lake. Although I've wondered why roads with cliffs on one or both sides don't have good guardrails. For example, the Mount Baker Highway near Heather Meadows scares the hell out of me. I'm not afraid of heights but come on, there has got to be some sort of protection; those cliff below the highway in some places drop at least 1000 feet & how there could be no protection of some sort is beyond me.

Photo of the Lake

Could someone please take & add a photo of the lake to the article at the top of the geobox. While that photo of Domke Falls is nice, it doesn't really do justice as the main photo of the lake. Perhaps it would be better off on a Domke Falls stub of its own. I may even make a stub for the falls if anyone wanted me to. What needs to be at the top of the geobox is a photo that will draw any viewer's attention to the lake, not a waterfall. See what I'm getting at here? AndrewEnns (talk) 18:43, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Makes sense--I just did it. I had a photo of the lake sitting around, so uploaded it and here it is. Perhaps it is not the best photo for the geobox, feel free to replace it if desired. I just noticed the Lake Chelan category at the Commons. Perhaps one of those photos would be better, maybe this one? A bit washed-out, but taken from a higher point with more of the mountains and fjord appearance visible. I moved the Domke Falls photo to the gallery at the bottom of the page. Thank you for doing that; I say that photo of Domke Falls & was like "what the... nice photo but what is it doing in the Lake chelan geobox?" Anyhow, now it is fixed! Pfly, did you upload that from Flickr; I'm pretty sure you said somewhere you have an account of Flickr (I'm actually thinking of getting one myself).

Vandalism Removed + Vandal Blocked

Last night, I reported the vandalism made by User 76.22.2.75 to someone who can block people & he blocked this clown who was writing crap on this article. Good stuff; this goof obviously doesn't think Wikipedia has any sort of integrity whatsoever! AndrewEnns (talk) 15:35, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Removed external link to anonymous personal attack website

I have removed an external link to a personal attack website owned and operated by Mr. Keith Little of Manson, Washington, accusing Mr. Ken B. Bradley of being a "scam artist." Mr. Bradley is my son-in-law. Operating a scam is a serious crime. To my certain knowledge, Mr. Bradley has neither been charged, prosecuted nor convicted of fraud or any misdemeanor or felony in any jusrisdiction. Mr. Little is a business competitor of Mr. Bradley who feels entitled to spread his negative opinion of Mr. Bradley without identifying himself as the accuser. I have had several conversations with Mr. Little urging him to relent or at least to identify himself as the accuser, but to no avail. Mr Little's posting of an authoritative-sounding external link on Wikipedia accusing Mr. Bradley of a crime of which he has not been convicted is a violation of verification and ethical standards of Wikipedia. How can the claim be that it's a "natural lake", when it's held back by a dam? —Steve Summit (talk) 02:07, 24 August 2014 (UTC)

Largest natural lake in Washington - need reliable source

Unfortunately, the only reliable sources for Lake Chelan being the largest natural lake in Washington do not mention the criteria on which that statement is based. They only state that it is the "largest natural lake in Washington." Only the Wikipedia page, List of lakes of Washington (state), shows it is the largest natural lake in terms of acrage and volumne. That page cannot be cited because it is a Wikipedia article. Paul H. (talk) 19:30, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
