Her birth name was not Sayyida Salme but Salama bint Said (cf the image legend of the English edition of her memoirs of 1907: "THE AUTHORESS Salamah bint Said, afterward Emily Ruete". Sayyida is a title for women of high status , Salme is a nickname for Salama (ar. سلامة , transcribed with or without final h), and that is how her father called her. Birth

She was the youngest of the 36 children of Said bin Sultan. If she was indeed born in 1844, that does not seem right - there are several on the list of 36 at Said bin Sultan born later than that (and many without birth year). Davidships (talk) 07:48, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
