Those who go missing are eventually declared dead in absentia (officially legally dead) if x time lapses. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 00:34, 23 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I tried to update the infobox with the information, but the "date disappeared" input does not seem to work with football infoboxes. Not really sure what the workaround would be.VampireKilla (talk) 16:39, 24 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Death

edit

Responding to the 'death in absentia' post - the fact that he is missing should show in the first line, after his date of birth, same as on pages for Jimmy Hoffa, Amelia Earhart, Madeleine McCann and many others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.67.13.101 (talk) 12:32, 23 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Whatsapp message

edit

What's the opinion on the inclusion on the transcript of the Whatsapp message? Perhaps cut anything not Cardiff or plane related? Certainly the first two sentences seem a little unnecessary I would think. Kosack (talk) 20:09, 23 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Time Frames

edit

Cardiff have released a club statement that describes the latest developments in the disappearance of Emiliano Sala that can be found here: https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/2019/january/club-statement-240119/

I have removed that dash from Sala's name in terms of time spent with Cardiff and added a 'disappearance' portion to the box in place of 'death' as can be seen in Jimmy Hoffa's Wikipedia page. Given the sensitive matter with ongoing news, I felt obligated to post here describing the actions being taken on this page before carrying them out. NotAdamKovic (talk) 17:37, 24 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Only just noticed this, after I readded the dash. The overall tone of the article still lists him as a current player (current team used in infobox, opening in present tense etc) so I have restored the dash to match this tone until the situation changes. Please remove the category "Victims of aviation accidents or incidents in international waters". It is not known where the plane crashed, and the distance between the last known location (Alderney) and international waters is fairly substantial. You need to add the word "which", although "begun on" is not a grammatical mistake in British English anyway. Alternatively you could put "which started". 109.145.172.86 (talk) 08:55, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Past tense

edit

He has now moved to past tense in the lead section of the article. Does this mean "living=yes" should be changed to "living=no" on this page? Does it also mean he is now eligible for WP:ITN Recent Deaths? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:46, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

This edit now categorically describes Sala as "dead." Is this within policy? Martinevans123 (talk) 16:37, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Martinevans123: I think definitely not. No mainstream media outlets are reporting him as dead yet. We should continue to list him as disappeared until they do.  — Amakuru (talk) 17:37, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

"Hello, my brothers, how are you? Boy, I’m tired. I was here in Nantes taking care of things, things, things, things, things, things, and it never stops, it never stops, it never stops. Anyway guys, I’m up in this plane that feels like it's falling to pieces, and I’m going to Cardiff. [It's] crazy, we start tomorrow. Training in the afternoon, guys, in my new team… Let's see what happens. So, how's it going with you guys, all good? If in an hour and a half you have no news from me, I don't know if they are going to send someone to look for me because they cannot find me, but you will know… Dad, I'm scared!"[43]

^^ the report/source states 'Man, I'm scared' not Dad. 194.247.234.2 (talk) 11:04, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Not done: I believe the subtitles provided in the Sky source incorrectly used the word "Man". If you listen carefully to the audio, Sala clearly says "Papa". Rodney Baggins (talk) 11:55, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Oh. I had changed it as I thought his idiomatic use of "Papa" in Argentinian Spanish would be more closely translated as "Man". This is how that Sky article translates it. Please revert if you disagree. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:08, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes I see what you mean Martin. It's more likely to be "Man" in that context. Thanks. Rodney Baggins (talk) 12:47, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Already done We have to go with what the source reports, not our own original research. The article currently says "Man". – Jonesey95 (talk) 12:43, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Declared_death_in_absentia#England_and_Wales looks at this issue. It could be difficult for David Ibbotson's family if his body was not found, but the Wikipedia article should not say that he is dead unless a court has accepted this.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 05:59, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Strange edit

edit

Some IP keeps changing "over" to "about" creating the sentence "Guernsey Police initially searched for three days about 1,700 square miles (4,400 km2) across the English Channel." , unfortunately the IP hasn't edited any other words which makes the construct of the sentence rather poor. The English channel is a fast area, and generally you search "over" a body of water, not "about" in a body of water. That and the other fact the IP is jus says is copying the exact wording from the source, which also represents a copyvio issue which we are suppose to avoid. So can we have another editor sort out the wording thanks. Govvy (talk) 12:39, 26 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

There is nothing "strange" about this at all. Your suggestion of WP:COPYVIO is utterly ridiculous. The Guardian source uses the word "about" for a reason. It says this: "He said rescue teams had scanned about 1,700 sq miles and examined mobile phone data and satellite imagery and had found no trace of the plane." If you think this is somehow "strange wording" you need to take it up with Nazia Parveen and Steven Morris of The Guardian. The word "over" is ambiguous in this context as it can mean "over the top of" or "more than". An alternative would be to use the phrase "approximately 1,700 square miles" if we really must. The source is clear that the area was an approximate one, not exact. It's not copyvio to ensure this distinction is preserved. 86.181.187.36 (talk) 12:55, 26 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

First anniversary

edit

Today is the first anniversary of the plane crash. BBC News coverage here and here. Also CNN and Sky. Some material could be used in the article. The WhatsApp voice message in the BBC News story shows that Sala was not entirely happy with the move to Cardiff, something that has been reported previously.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 09:56, 21 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Brother and sister...

"He had a brother, Dario, and a sister, Romina"

He still has a brother and sister. They are still his brother and sister. Him death doesn't change that. 208.69.184.59 (talk) 16:56, 21 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I think the tense is ok, but what do others think?--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 17:31, 21 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think the tense is absolutely fine - using the present tense would sound odd IMO given that Emiliano himself is sadly no longer with us. JezGrove (talk) 18:23, 21 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps: "He is survived by a sister, Romina, and a brother, Dario." (Possibly at the end of the paragraph, after the mention of his father's tragic death.) Cl3phact0 (talk) 17:03, 23 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
