Elvaston Castle History

Does anyone have any definitive sources about the early history of the Castle and it's ownership as I have found some conflicting information.

The article currently reads: Until the 16th century the estate was held by the Shelford Priory; After the Dissolution of the Monasteries the Crown sold the Priory and its estates in 1538 to Sir Michael Stanhope of Rampton, Nottinghamshire. Sir John Stanhope (d.1611) granted the estate to his second son, also Sir John Stanhope (d .1638), High Sheriff of Derbyshire, in 1629

-Its sources, however, isn't cited.

Elvaston Castle's website (I'm not sure if it's official) [1], however states something different:

It says that Sir Thomas Hanselin as one of the original estate owners and that it passed into the hands of the Musard family of Staveley and then Frenchville family; before being purchased by Sir Walter Blount in 1420.

So which is it? Did it come with the Purchase of Shelford Priory? (I have found reliable sources to prove that Sir Michael did purchase Shelford Priory; but there is nothing to say that Elvaston was part of this) Or did it pass through these families until it reached the Stanhopes?

My second issue is regarding the construction of the original house

The website says the estate passed to Sir Thomas Stanhope of Shelford and that it was his grandson Philip Stanhope, 1st Earl of Chesterfield that built the new house in 1633. -Again this leads to some confusion.

If the a new house was built by the Earl of Chesterfield in 1633, how could his younger brother Sir John have been granted the estate by their father in 1629?
