Neutral Point of View?

Is this article neutral? The fact that I even have to question this makes me feel like it's not. This is a problem.

I got the same feeling about its lack of neutrality. It's a glowing review of how wonderful Elijah is, not a neutral article describing him.

Of course, I agree that Elijah is wonderful, so it doesn't bother me too much, but a few of the statements should at least cite sources. I put "citation needed" next to this statement:

Someone needs to explain what exactly they mean by "practically every review". I'm sure he did a good job, but I'm suspicious of that statement. Not a big deal though. Elijah IS awesome. :) Maurajbo (talk) 02:15, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Elijah's musical training

The "personal life" section now says that "he's learning to sing professionally." I remember that he mentioned having some voice training back when he auditioned for "Moulin Rouge," but does that really count as "learning to sing professionally"? It makes it sound like he's training to be a professional singer, or something. And is he still studying singing, as the item implies?

Does anyone have a source for this information? As far as his musical training goes, I know he studied piano when he was young, had the vocal training a few years ago, plays just a little bit of guitar, and (currently) has been learning to play the drums for his role as Iggy Pop.Roundthebend 18:03, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

The trivia items, of which this was included, that I edited and was hesitant to let stand, all came from a BLOG I recently saw through Google Alerts. The Wiki editor who added them, cut and pasted it verbatim and that's what caught my attention. There's no source that says he's learning to sing professionally and that probably should be cut (and I will cut it). At first, I thought some references was being made to Elijah's preparations for protraying Iggy Pop (The Passenger), but the melange of data in that BLOG is old, o why would that item be fresh. edwpat

I found the source (which is no source whatsoever). It was a fan article at StudentTimes, who told of her meeting with Elijah at The Oxford Murders set, and then published an old list of stuff under OTHER STUFF. Cigarrettes

I do not see necessity in saying that Elijah smokes cigarettes. Almost all the stars of Hollywood do it. This is irrelevant in my opinion. Jane

I don't think it has much encyclopedic value, either, but it is interesting to note that Josh Hartnett got Wood hooked on clove cigarettes while they starring in The Faculty together. LotR (the book) is not a trilogy

Please see WP:MeS 6.3.

The Lord of the Rings is a story published as three volumes and consists of six books. Please don't confuse this with Peter Jackson's films which are correctly referred to as a trilogy. Thu 12:11, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

The article refers to the FILM - not the Book, and therefore is correctly stated as a Trilogy. I know that it is one story. I'm a Tolkien Scholar. But Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and the FILM follows the original publishing scheme (after a fashion) as a Trilogy. I will revert back to my changes. The article states that Mr Wood 'has studied music professionally'. Where, when and what instrument? I am not aware of his having any musical qualifications other than a love of the medium.

I have to agree that the "studied music professionally" sounds suspect. I know he had piano as a child, and a bit of voice training in recent years, but I don't think either count as "professionally." Is there documentation to the contrary? Roundthebend

I know this isn't sourced, but it's true. The person who gave him piano lessons was Marlene. You see, I currently have piano lessons with the Marlene at Concordia Lutheran Church (I have been in lessons since I was four). She told me about him during one session when I was nine. Missing some stuff

I have never seen any of the shows or movies listed before LotR, and yet i was a fan of him before then. My first boyfriend looks like him, which I noted, and we met in 2000. He was in a T.V. series I just don't remember which one. Lord of the Ring Before and After

I'm not too sure whether it is appropriate in Elijah's case to define things as during and after LOTR??? Discussion please. I know, he wouldn;t appreciate it, but within the context of the article it relegates most of his adult acting in relation to the trilogy. A bit biased. WP:NOR

Adding a conjecture about Wood's personal life to the article, citing only a string of photographs and captions, fails Wikipedia's ban on original research as well as conflicting with WP:BLP. Playing games with the form of the claim, making it somewhat implicit rather than an express statement, is a transparent effort to evade these policies. Something is wrong with the chronology of his early life. Ending the pedantry of the IPA pronunciation guide.

I think it's past time at WP for the pendulum to swing against the shoehorning of International Phonetic Alphabet's obscure, obfuscatory symbols into articles. It's a special eyesore in this article. Ninety-nine per cent of speakers of English at as third language can probably pronounce Elijah Wood's name just as they could John Wayne's or Joan Crawford's, but 999.999% of them would choke on IPA's symbols; I do, and I have a Bachelor's Degree in Enlish Lit from a state university in the USA and was a newspaper reporter. I'm aware this issue has been much dicussed here.

Filmography

The dates which his movies had been released are incorrect. Happy Feet was not released in 2005, as well as Sin City was not released in 2004. Almost all the dates are incorrect. Jane-21 Also,9, from film focos (same company made by Coraline)was released in 2009. I mean come on! It just came out a week ago!

That was probably my fault, because when the Wiki-Police tagged the filmography as ersazt because it was presented in ascending order, I undertook to reverse the order (which was a bit hair-raising). Shouldn't his filmography be updated? I just finished watching the Robot Chicken Season 5 episode "The Departy Monster", and he is quite clearly credited in the closing credits as playing himself as Frodo in the Mt. Doom scene of "Return of the King", except in this one, the ring is being used as a cock ring, and Gollum has to deep throat Frodo in order to get to the ring... Anti Robot Chicken Conspiracy at Wikipedia??

Is there a conspiracy to prevent Robot Chicken episodes from being added to actor pages??? I am watching Season Five of Robot Chicken, and there is no mention of the actors who play themselves (and others) on Robot Chicken in the filmographies of said actors.

Real estate value

In the Personal life section, I see a mention that he sold his Hollywood home and bought an Austin home, but it lists (nearly the dollar) the prices. Is this necessary? This article has potential to become a GA, but at the moment, it has some pretty glaring issues:

• The second paragraph of the lead is kinda a laundry list of all the films Wood has appeared in, with no note to which were significant in his career. The lead should aim to establish why he is notable and what was significant to him/his career. At the moment, I'm not seeing that.
• #1999–2003: The Lord of the Rings is awfully short considering Wood was the lead character of those hugely successful films. Consider adding reception to Wood's performance and how he prepared for the role.
• The same applies for most of the article, actually, as it just seems to list Wood's films with very little information
• The career section seems to end after 2017. Looking at Wood's filmography, it appears he has still been active, especially with producing. Can anything be said about these projects?
• #Personal life is mostly one sentence paragraphs. Try to expand/combine these as they can make the article feel pretty choppy.
• There seem to be some questionable sources like CraveOnline and Agents of Geek.

This is definitely a start, but this article needs some significant expansion to comply with WP:GA?#3. I also have some concerns with criterion 1 (particularly with the lead section) and 2. I think the changes required would go beyond the scope of the review, so I'll have to fail this nom at the moment. Feel free to renominate at any time. Thanks. Lord of the Rings audition video ?

I heard on one of the LORT DVDs, somewhere in the commentary by Peter Jackson, that Elijah Wood originally got the part because he sent in an audition video he made with some friends - is that video still around anywhere? It'd be funny to see, and if it's online, this article should link to it.

Celebopedia says, "Elijah Wood heard about the Lord of the Rings trilogy while filming The Faculty (1998). Immediately, he sensed that this was the chance of a lifetime. Director George Huang, a personal friend of Wood's, filmed his audition tape for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He shot the scene from different angles which were cut together for the video. They sent the video off to New Zealand for director Peter Jackson and a few months later, he got the part."

The Wikipedia article George Huang (director) mentions, "George shot Elijah Wood's audition tape that landed him the role of Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy."

The Audition Tape

Unfortunately, the audition video tape is the property of New Line and is not available for viewing, although Elijah Wood is quite proud of it. It was the one element that secured his role as Frodo Baggins. However, snippets of the video can be seen on the Fellowship of the Ring (FOTR EE) Extended Edition in the DVD features section about the casting. Liz, the external links were vaporized by several Wikipedians (Langoliers) and when I tried to restore mine (not a fansite either, but I was told it expressed creativity and thus was a no no), I was threatened with Wikipedian expulsion and oblivion. The Always and Forever link under external links keeps reappearing even though I've deleted it. Like many fansites, this one displays copyrighted images and videos that do not belong to the webmaster. Therefore, it violates Wikipedia's policy and shouldn't be linked to.

This fansite has been linked since the article began and has been kept and maintained as the primary and ONE allowable fansite. As for the copyrighted images, the other 2 external links also on those grounds are in violation and those sites must be linked in Wikipedia for almost every Film article. We cleaned this article up a year ago where there were a dozen fansites, including my own and it was generally agreed by the editors that Always & Forever would remain as the ONE fansite links for its comprehensive coverage and it Award Winning status (2 years running) at TORN.com. Does anyone know how tall Elijah is? I have estimated that his height is 156 centimetres (5 feet 1 in British measurements). Can anyone tell if I am correct?

Hi, Lena. Most sources list him as 5 foot 6 inches (167.6 cm), but I think he's probably closer to 5 foot 5 inches (165.1 cm). I am 5'4" and he is a little bit taller than I am! Roundthebend

At a second thought I believe you. I probably underestimated his height. 165 centimetres (5 feet 5) is on the upper border of short men. This explains why I have never perceived him as particularly short.
