Elijah Boardman Slaveowner

edit

Elijah Boardman's biography says "Elijah Boardman was the largest slave-owner in his hometown of New Milford in 1780. According to the US Census of 1780, he owned six slaves." This should be deleted. The first US Census was not until 1790--the Constitution had not been written in 1780. In 1780, Elijah Boardman was only about 21 and living at home. Elijah Boardman does not appear in the 1790 Census for New Milford. The 1790 Census for New Milford lists Elisha Bostwick, on the same page as the Boardmans are listed, as having six slaves in his household; perhaps this explains the misstatement about Elijah Boardman as a slave-owner. The reference to Elijah Boardman as a slave-owner should be deleted. There is no historical support for this statement. Ragmop69 (talk) 18:24, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
