Often times the term "elevator pitch" is used to encourage screenwriters to prepare a small speech that highlights the strong points of their work when the opportunity arises to sell their script. Nowadays screenwriting contests require their screenwriters to include an elevator pitch with their submission. This prevalence of elevator pitches in the screenwriting world has bled over into many MFA programs, with students often having to prepare an elevator pitch as a final assignment.
